The Role

The Systems Administrator provides best-in-class technical support for the infrastructure that hosts the Veeva Vault application. Vault is an innovative cloud-based software solution used by the Life Sciences industry that enables companies to get their critical products and services to market faster. 
 
As a member of the European TechOps Team, the Systems Administrator will provide a high level of technical support for our Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, including Linux operating systems on EC2 instances, EBS volumes, ELB, RDS & MySQL databases, S3, and various software packages.  You will build and configure new infrastructure, contribute towards process automation through scripting, solve and document solutions to complex problems, and work as part of a global team.
 
The successful candidate will have strong, relevant technical experience, be resourceful, demonstrate composure under pressure and enjoy working in a fast-paced, multinational environment.  A keen sense of autonomy and job ownership is essential.  We are looking for someone with a real focus on service and a customer-first mentality who wants to grow their career alongside the rest of the business in the region.

What You'll Do
  • Provide best practice support for the Vault application on AWS infrastructure
  • Monitor alerts and troubleshoot critical production issues impacting customer end-users including system availability, performance and data integrity issues
  • Build out, deploy and configure new infrastructure
  • Provide support to developers during regular code releases
  • Automation of software deployment, configuration management, and performance management in the AWS environment
  • Design and implement new processes and keep existing documentation and tools up to date as the environment changes
  • Continuously learn and innovate.  Participate in developing new solutions to complex problems
  • Cross train with other team members to share knowledge and learn from others

  • Requirements
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in Linux system administration in a production Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment
  • Strong English written/oral communication skills
  • Exposure to JIRA (or similar ticketing system) for workload management
  • Experience working with customers from highly regulated industries
  • Strong desire to learn and share knowledge with a diverse global team

  • Nice to Have
  • Experience with MySQL or other relational databases
  • Experience with Check_MK or similar monitoring tools
  • Previous automation using Ansible or Lambda
  • Knowledge of IP networking, VPNs, DNS, load balancing and firewalls
  • Experience of other cloud IAAS providers (Azure, Google, IBM)
