Since founding Coalesce, our mission has remained the same: to improve the lives of data professionals by helping them transform data as efficiently as possible. We aim to bring an end to the days of arduous manual coding and inflexible GUIs by providing a best of both worlds solution.
We’re seeking a Senior Technical Product Designer to join our innovative team and drive the design of sophisticated, highly technical SaaS products. In this pivotal role, you'll collaborate directly with our product and engineering teams, defining and shaping products that address complex customer needs while setting a benchmark for usability and excellence. This role is ideal for someone passionate about working in a fast-paced startup environment, eager to lead design initiatives, and motivated by the opportunity to significantly influence Coalesce's growth and direction.
The design team at Coalesce is organized around two core product areas: Transformation (where this role is focused) and Data Catalog. While the teams work on distinct domains, we operate as one cohesive design team. We work closely across product lines — through regular design critiques, brainstorming sessions, and shared ideation — to ensure a unified user experience and consistent design language across the platform.
We’re looking for someone who will complement the team’s strengths with strong craft, systems thinking, and execution skills. The ideal candidate is not only highly autonomous and collaborative, but also curious and forward-thinking — especially when it comes to AI. We’re particularly excited to meet designers who are already exploring or integrating AI tools in their design process, and who are eager to help us shape how AI can enhance our product and our practice.
As part of the role, you’ll also get access to premium tools to support your work and creativity, including Nicelydone, ChatGPT, and other AI and research tools we regularly use across the team for ideation and productivity.
Lead end-to-end design processes, creating intuitive and visually compelling user interfaces, user flows, and interactive prototypes.
Take ownership of new features, from initial research and concept through design and user validation.
Conduct targeted user research and usability testing to deeply understand customer and stakeholder needs, informing design decisions.
Work closely with product managers to define product requirements and translate them into actionable design solutions.
Engage actively with engineering teams, ensuring feasibility and high-quality execution of designs.
Continuously enhance our existing product by identifying areas for improvement and proposing innovative solutions.
Advocate for and help evolve design guidelines, standards, and best practices across the organization.
Manage relationships and drive alignment with internal stakeholders.
Collaborate effectively with distributed teams across multiple time zones, including North America, Europe and New Zealand.
Drive non-feature related design projects, such as ensuring the seamless integration of multiple products' look and feel.
Minimum 6 years of proven experience as a Product Designer, preferably with experience designing complex, technical SaaS products.
Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Demonstrated ability to solve challenging design problems and translate complex concepts into elegant, intuitive solutions. Reduce the scope, complexity, and ambiguity of projects to a more manageable state.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong proficiency in Figma and familiarity with other design and prototyping tools.
Experience working with design component libraries, knowing when to leverage existing components or create new ones.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; adept at collaborating effectively with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders. Participate in design reviews, exchanging feedback appropriately.
Strong stakeholder management skills.
Proven experience working within Agile/Scrum methodologies in cross-functional teams.
A proactive, independent worker capable of managing priorities effectively in a remote, dynamic startup environment.
Familiarity with accessibility best practices and WCAG guidelines.
Solid understanding of data management concepts, data warehousing, or related technical domains.
