Cyber Security Engineer - Application Security 

Location: Remote , Canada 


Empire Life is looking to hire a Cyber Security Engineer specializing in Application Security! The Cyber Security Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing security controls, leading incident response, performing risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves evaluating new technologies, automating security processes, and providing technical expertise to protect data, systems, and networks. The engineer will collaborate with various IT teams and stakeholders, contributing to the enterprise security strategy and maintaining a strong security posture.

What you’ll be working on

  • Develop and implement security process controls for cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, and Azure.

  • Lead Incident Response Team with SIEM engineering tasks.

  • Evaluate new technologies and services to solve complex security issues.

  • Perform design reviews and risk assessments for new production instances and configurations.

  • Provide guidance and leadership on security architecture and compliance matters for business and IT projects; assist in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as SOX, PCI, PIPEDA, etc.

  • Perform risk analysis on various systems; review and recommend processes to improve identity and access management.

  • Develop tools, write scripts, and automate processes to assist with routine tasks; provide input into the enhancement, streamlining, and improvement of technology and processes to improve team effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Remain current on new and emerging attacks, vulnerabilities, and overall security trends; share learnings with team members.

  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and improvement of new and existing IT security policies and standards.

  • Provide leadership in planning, implementation, monitoring, and upgrading of security measures for the protection of data, systems, and networks.

What we’re looking for you to have
  • 3+ years experience as an IT Security Professional with strong technical knowledge of enterprise cloud infrastructure security, application security, Penetration Testing, DevSecOps, Enterprise Firewalls, IDS, IPS, VPN, SIEM, Risk Management.

  • Technical ability to identify security threats and provide guidance to appropriate leadership to ensure the implementation of mitigating controls.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with individuals with varying levels of technical understanding at all levels of the organization. 

  • A desire to influence positive change and the ability to work effectively with leadership to contribute to the development of enterprise-wide security strategy. 

  • Experience identifying, mitigating and reporting IT Security Incidents as defined in our organization’s incident management process.

  • Familiarity with defined industry best practices and frameworks such as NIST.

  • Experience working in an on-call rotation.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and development. 

  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships across departments and effectively engage business partners.

  • A community college diploma, university degree or equivalent work experience, with courses in network technologies, operating systems, scripting, programming, algorithms and related technologies.
