SUMMARY: The Operations Manager oversees and coordinates the end-to-end operations of drayage services, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and compliant movement of cargo to and from ports, rail yards, and customer locations. This role involves managing relationships with carriers, third-party logistics providers, and internal stakeholders while continuously improving processes for efficiency and performance.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage daily drayage operations including scheduling, dispatching, and tracking of shipments.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound container movements from ports and rail ramps to warehouses, distribution centers, and customer locations.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and port regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with drayage carriers, and internal teams.
- Negotiate carrier contracts and rates to optimize service and control costs.
- Monitor and analyze KPIs such as on-time performance, detention/demurrage costs, and overall drayage spend.
- Resolve service issues, delays, or carrier performance concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Utilize TMS (Transportation Management Systems) and other software to monitor shipments and improve operational visibility.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in business, transportation or related field; or a combination of post high school and equal experience may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE: 7-10 years industry experience with 3 - 5 years in a supervisory or management position.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word.
OTHER: Ability to travel and work long hours. 10% minimal travel
JOB SCOPE: Position impacts a single business unit/segment.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside an office environment and also outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.
