About the Quant Developer Opportunity

As a Quant Developer at Sparta Commodities, you will work in a cross-functional environment at the intersection of quantitative research, technology, and product. You will be building, optimising, and maintaining data-driven models that power our real-time analytics platform. This is a hands-on, high-impact role ideal for someone passionate about engineering elegant solutions to complex quantitative problems in financial trading.

Key Responsibilities – Quantitative Analytics & Software Engineering
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable algorithms and financial models in production systems.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, quantitative researchers, and engineering teams to deliver innovative trading tools and analytics.
  • Optimise performance and reliability of quantitative processes across the platform.
  • Integrate diverse sources of financial and market data to enhance model accuracy and coverage.
  • Prototype, backtest, and validate new trading signals and strategies with a practical focus on real-world use cases.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code – championing best practices in software and data engineering.
  • Contribute to product development from concept through to delivery, shaping user-facing features that leverage quantitative insights.
About You – Quantitative Developer Skills & Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in quantitative development, preferably within finance, commodities, or trading technology.
  • Proficiency in Python (NumPy, pandas, SciPy); familiarity with C++ or Rust is a plus.
  • Strong experience with time series data, statistical modelling, and numerical optimisation.
  • Solid understanding of financial markets, trading concepts, and quantitative methods.
  • Experience developing production-quality code, including testing, version control, and code reviews.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerised deployments (Docker, Kubernetes) is beneficial.
  • Excellent problem solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Driven by curiosity and a desire to deliver impact through technology and quantitative research.
Bonus Points
  • MSc or PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Background in commodities or energy markets.
  • Open-source contributions or research publications in quantitative finance.
