ABOUT THE STRATEGIC SUPPORT LEAD ROLE

Building Impact Partners seeks three (3) highly organized, proactive Strategic Support Leads to provide exceptional support to one or two Partners at the firm. This is a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a growing, mission-driven organization while honing your strategic executive support, communications, business development, and project management skills.

This role is ideal for someone energized by partnering with senior leaders to help them operate at their highest level of effectiveness. You thrive behind the scenes, ensuring priorities stay on track, follow-through happens, and the right people are kept in the loop at the right times. You’ll need to be a strategic thinker and a steady executor—comfortable managing up, holding others accountable, and driving work forward with precision, care, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

As a Strategic Support Lead, you will play a critical role in enabling the effectiveness of our senior leaders and helping them move high-impact work forward, individually and as a Partner team. You will be instrumental in ensuring that the Partner(s) you support are focused on the highest-leverage activities and follow through on key responsibilities that keep the firm running smoothly.

Your responsibilities will fall across four core areas:

1. Executive Support & Calendar Management

You will be a trusted partner to one or two Partners, managing their calendars and workflow with strong attention to detail, discretion, and strategic foresight, and tailoring your support to their working style and preferences. You will coordinate internal and external meetings, but this work goes far beyond scheduling—it involves proactively suggesting meetings or connections that advance the Partner’s priorities, thinking critically about what research or preparation is most helpful before meetings, and identifying follow-up steps to optimize outcomes. Your responsibilities will also include booking travel, processing expenses, managing email and communications, and preparing engagement materials. You’ll manage up effectively by proactively tracking tasks, reminding Partners of upcoming deadlines, anticipating needs, and facilitating follow-through to keep the firm operating smoothly, ensuring that each interaction is intentional and moves work forward.

2. Business Development & Communications

You will play an active role in advancing the firm’s growth by supporting and tracking business development efforts. This includes researching prospective clients, drafting and tracking outreach, contributing to the development of pitch materials and proposals, and ensuring follow-up happens and progress is tracked. You’ll help ensure our external communications are clear, compelling, and aligned with our values and mission. You will also support collaboration across the Partner team by working with other Strategic Support Leads on joint business development efforts such as pitch decks, proposals, etc.

3. Project Coordination & Firm Operations

As your familiarity with the firm grows, you will have the opportunity to take on a variety of special projects that may span internal operations, team engagement activities, or direct client support. You’ll have the chance to build new skills, contribute across functions, and support the evolving needs of a growing organization.

4. Tailored Partner Support

In addition to the “must-have” support outlined above, Partners' individual needs vary across the team. These needs will provide an opportunity for growth for the right candidate. Illustrative examples of the needs of individual Partners are outlined below, but are not meant to be exhaustive:

Caitlin Hannon, President

  • Support the President’s strategic leadership of the firm by project-managing internal initiatives
  • Collaborate with the President on building her profile as a woman leader in the space, including identifying other women and organizations to collaborate with
  • Operationalize an effort to promote more effective collaboration across the Partner team, including preparing Partner meeting materials and working with peers to ensure Partners are engaged in firm-wide initiatives

Alex Johnston, Founding Partner

  • Support the Founding Partner in his non-profit CEO capacity, assisting with strategic planning, board management, communications, and project management for a newly-founded organization focused on building philanthropic infrastructure and mobilizing more philanthropic resources
  • Provide skilled support in translating the Founding Partner's ideas into tangible outputs, coordinating research, drafting and editing materials, and managing project timelines in support of thought leadership work
  • Serve as a strategic sounding board and manage the interplay across the Founding Partner’s roles, with a specific lens on ensuring coherence and collaboration with other Partners on overarching strategy, vision, and long-term direction for the firm.

Mike Wang and Nicole Brisbane, Partners

  • Lead business development research and build insights to support the growth of both Partners’ portfolios, leveraging LinkedIn, Candid, Foundation Search, and other tools and platforms
  • Identify public-facing thought leadership opportunities and develop content for conference sessions, proposals, and other marketing materials, including one-pagers, decks, etc.
  • Bring exceptional detail orientation, project management, and follow-through to the management of both Partners’ business development efforts, including adjusting the approach based on the needs of the individual Partners

This opportunity is for you if you are…

  • A natural doer. When the path forward is unclear, you roll up your sleeves, get curious, and find a way through. You have a strong bias toward action and take pride in producing high-quality work efficiently and thoughtfully.
  • Creative and entrepreneurial. You don’t wait to be told what needs doing—you anticipate needs, identify solutions, and take ownership of getting things done. You’re comfortable managing up, navigating ambiguity, and can shift gears with ease when plans change.
  • Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented. You thrive on structure and know how to bring order to complexity. You manage multiple streams of work with grace and create systems that help others stay on track.
  • A strong communicator. You write and speak clearly and concisely, know how to tailor messages for different audiences, and are not afraid to ask questions when needed. You ensure nothing falls through the cracks by communicating proactively and thoughtfully.
  • Relationship-centered. You build trust through reliability, professionalism, and respect. You know how to interact with individuals at all levels inside and outside of the organization with discretion and care.
  • Curious and eager to learn. You are open to learning, seek feedback, enjoy stretching into new areas, and constantly looking for ways to better serve the team and mission. You are excited to grow your skills and knowledge in executive support, philanthropy, strategy, and client services.

This opportunity is for you if you have experience in:

  • Executive or Administrative Support: You have a track record of supporting senior leaders in fast-paced environments—juggling calendars and travel, handling sensitive information with care and discretion, anticipating needs, and communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders by email, Zoom, and in-person.
  • Business Development or Marketing Support: You’re skilled at supporting business development—researching potential clients or partners, drafting outreach or proposal materials—and have exceptionally strong writing, editing and presentation-building skills that you put to use to create polished decks, briefings, or reports for professional audiences. You’re familiar with CRM systems and understand how organizations communicate their brand and value externally.
  • Project Coordination or Program Management: You have experience keeping complex projects on track—managing timelines, deliverables, and multiple workstreams across teams. You’re comfortable with project management tools and shared systems, and you know how to bring structure to fast-moving or ambiguous situations.
  • Nonprofit, Consulting, or Mission-Driven Environments: You’ve worked in mission-driven environments—like philanthropy, consulting, nonprofits, or social impact—and you're comfortable working with clients or stakeholders in service of a larger purpose. You operate with professionalism, discretion, and a strong service mindset.
  • Bonus Experience:
    • You’ve worked in a startup or early-stage environment and are comfortable with evolving processes.
    • You have experience with event coordination and/or logistics planning
    • You’re skilled at visual storytelling through slide design and/or infographics
    • You’re adept at writing for multiple audiences, and particularly strong at developing compelling client-facing communications
