Job description

Who We Are

At Jordan CPA Services, we’re building a firm where we’d want to work, rooted in growth, transparency, and a true love of collaboration. We’re a traditional bookkeeping, tax, and accounting firm, but more like a teaching hospital - “see one, do one, teach one” - learning skills, empowering clients, and mentoring teammates. Our clients trust us for efficiency and technical accuracy, but also for how we teach, communicate, and help them feel confident in their numbers.

Our culture isn’t the noise of corporate grind, it's the quiet hum of clarity and mutual respect. Jordan is a place for professionals who hold a high bar for themselves, bringing consistency, tenacity, and expertise to their work. Our vision is to not just be the best place to work, but an intentionally balanced environment for the right kind of people who understand drive and want to create with us.

Who You Are

We're looking for a seasoned Tax Preparer who knows ProConnect Tax inside and out and can hit the ground running. You’ll prepare the majority of our passthrough and individual annual returns, working from our clean, internally prepped books and clear workflows. You’ll also review simple returns, draft responses to tax notices, roll retained earnings, and make smart tax adjustments - all while staying organized in our project management tools.

While much of your work will be independently focused, we’re also a highly collaborative firm where you’ll regularly connect with your team. Whether you’re in the zone long-term preparing returns or wanting to grow into management or advisory work, we’ll meet you where you are. This role is designed for someone who wants to do efficient, satisfying tax work — with clear expectations, strong support, and zero chaos.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Prepare approximately 200+ (primarily 1120S, 1065, and 1040) using clean year-end financial statements prepared by our bookkeeping team

  • Review 50+ simple returns prepared by other team members

  • Make tax-related adjustments and document accounting entries (depreciation, reclassifications, etc.) for the bookkeeping team

  • Prepare tax projections and quarterly tax estimates

  • Occasionally prepare returns from external client records (small rental companies, Schedule Cs, etc.)

  • Troubleshoot filing issues (rejected extensions), conduct infrequent targeted/critical tax research as needs arise, and draft responses to IRS/state tax notices as needed

  • Maintain online project management tools to stay organized and manage tasks to project completion

What You’ve Already Got

  • 3+ years public accounting experience required

  • 2+ years of recent experience using Intuit ProConnect Tax required

  • Experience preparing a combination of  200+ corporate and individual returns per year

  • 2+ years experience working in a collaborative remote environment

  • Strong understanding of tax and accounting fundamentals, including retained earnings rollforward and tax treatment of fixed assets

  • Experience preparing returns in various states. Bonus points if you have experience with Missouri, Texas Franchise Tax, California, and/or New York return preparation

  • Understanding of S Corp shareholder basis, partner capital account reconciliation, and/or multistate taxation and apportionment

  • Proficiency with managing your workload in an organized, tech-enabled environment

  • Comfortable in a role that is mostly independent, but still highly collaborative

  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity, with a genuine eagerness to deepen technical knowledge by seeking out relevant training courses and asking thoughtful, timely questions supported by foundational knowledge

  • CPA, EA, or MST preferred; interest in tax advisory and client interaction a plus

What We Give

  • Hourly pay: $35-40 per hour

  • Intended as a 40-hour/week position, with potential seasonal peaks closer to 50 hours

  • Our goal is to avoid overwork. We believe in sustainable growth and healthy schedules, and therefore pay overtime at 1.5x the hourly rate for any hours worked over 40 per week

  • Company-paid life, short-term and long-term disability insurance

  • Health insurance plan available with partial employer contribution

  • Employee-paid dental and vision insurance plans available

  • Retirement plan with up to 4% company match

  • 12 days of PTO and five paid sick days annually

  • 9 paid holidays, including 2 days each for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s

  • Professional development assistance available

  • Flexible full-time schedule (outside of tax and extension seasons) with required core hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. CST

If you’re not exactly qualified for this position, please feel free to complete this application anyway. Doing so will help us keep you in mind for future opportunities that align with your skill set and experience. We assess our applicants based on the entire package of who you are, not just the contents of your resume.
