Summary

The Principal Program Manager plans, organizes, and delivers high-risk, high-cost strategic projects/programs in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization. Plans organizational transformations related to migrating business functions.

Job Description

Consults on conversion and retirement of core systems/process. Consults with senior management on business process design, re-design and re-engineering. Details the vision and accompanying roadmap for project/program management within the organization. Provides direction to the project/program management function. Defines and develops project/program management best practices, processes, and policy to ensure alignment with organizational strategy and goals. Leads portfolio management and governance framework to prioritize projects/program according to relevant measurement criteria. Allocates project/program management resources aligned with organization's priorities.

Provides oversight of all projects programs to ensure delivery within the defined scope, quality, time and cost requirements. Implements and oversees project capacity planning across the organization. Works with all departments to review gaps or resource constraints as projects are planned and/or implemented. Conducts regular and ad-hoc program reviews with project managers, team, executive leadership, and clients. Reviews vendor contracts associated with new projects and implements tollgates to manage resources and deliverables. Directs annual project planning and prioritization based on organizational goal setting. Produces monthly executive dashboards and engages executive leadership in reviews of project deliverables. Monitors industry for noteworthy changes and industry best practices. Champions organization's project/program management methodology, tools, and techniques. Coaches/mentors project and program teams on issues, problems, and solution methods.

Requires excellent verbal and written communications skills, relationship management, client facing, negotiation, team-building, and problem-solving; experience in communicating with senior and executive levels of the organization, and an advanced understanding of project/program management techniques, standards, and industry practices (i.e., PMBOK).

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in project management or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum of eight years’ experience in Project and Program Management experience across full project lifecycle. Previous experience working with business stakeholders in a cross-functional matrix environment required. Advanced proficiency with project management software and Microsoft Office required.

Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification required. Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification preferred.
