ABOUT THE ROLE
The AFL Fan Hub, operating within AFL NSW, unites marketing, sale and data teams to grow the game in new and emerging markets. The Hub’s mission is to bring more people into footy, whether as fans, players or participants, with a focus on delivering localised, engaging and inclusive experiences that connect people to the game in new ways.
With a current focus on Greater Sydney and the foundational work of the GWS Giants, Sydney Swans and AFL NSW/ACT, the Fan Hub is testing and scaling creative approaches that can be replicated across the country in time.
The Fan Hub’s Graphic Designer plays a key role in visually bringing this mission to life. Responsible for producing a broad range of bold, contemporary, and audience-first creative, this role supports the delivery of campaigns, content and branded assets across both AFL and Club touchpoints.
From social media posts and event branding to paid campaign collateral and toolkits for community clubs, the Graphic Designer will work across 2D, motion and digital formats to help shape a fresh and exciting visual language for footy in growth markets. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker and proactive doer. Comfortable owning briefs from concept through to delivery, and able to adapt quickly to shifting priorities.
Reporting to the Marketing Manager – Fan Hub, the Graphic Designer collaborates closely with content producers, social leads and external partners across the Giants, Swans, AFL and community clubs to deliver high-quality assets that reflect the identity and energy of local audiences.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Key Accountabilities:
- Collaborate closely with the Fan Hub’s Marketing and other internal teams to bring creative concepts to life and execute high-impact campaigns
- Lead the design and execution of creative assets for marketing campaigns, events, community programs and branded initiatives across Greater Sydney
- Create bold and contemporary 2D graphics and illustrations for use across print, digital, OOH, and branded environments
- Design toolkits, templates and creative collateral to support Club and community campaigns, activations and localised initiatives
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Clubs (Giants, Swans), community partners and AFL teams, to produce compelling and cohesive design
- Develop visual concepts that align with campaign objectives and adapt for diverse audiences and formats
- Contribute to brainstorms and creative planning, bringing fresh ideas and visual thinking to the table
- Apply and maintain brand integrity across all design work, ensuring alignment with AFL, Club and partner brand guidelines
- Support the development of merchandise, signage, fan engagement tools, EDM graphics and campaign identities
- Manage workflow efficiently, balancing multiple projects, quick turnarounds and longer-term design projects
OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER
Core competencies
- Minimum 4+ years’ experience in graphic design, with a strong portfolio across print and digital formats
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Canva
- Strong conceptual thinker with the ability to translate campaign ideas into compelling visual executions
- Up-to-date with contemporary design trends, particularly within youth, sport, and lifestyle markets
- Demonstrated experience designing for a broad range of audiences, including families, multicultural communities, and new-to-sport markets
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
- Comfortable working within evolving brand frameworks and applying consistency across campaigns and formats
- Strong attention to detail, layout and typography
- Collaborative team player who values feedback and creative dialogue
- Passion for design that drives connection, participation and fandom in emerging sporting communities
- Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Monday.com or alternate program desirable
