We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Risk Events Platform team. This is a remote role based in Hungary, working with a high-impact platform that ingests and processes real-time risk data from sources like weather, wildfires, disease outbreaks, and more.


What you'll do:
  • Design & Build: As an individual contributor on an agile, cross-functional team, design, develop, test and deploy high-quality services, applications and APIs. 
  • Architecture & Code Quality: Drive technical discussions around architecture, scalability, security and performance; propose improvements and enforce best practices. 
  • Full-Stack Development: Implement backend services in Scala/Java (Spring Boot) and frontend components in React. 
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Leverage AWS services (API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, OpenSearch, IAM, VPC, SQS/SNS) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker, Helm). 
  • DevOps & Automation: Own infrastructure as code with Terraform, GitLab CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks. 
  • Production Support: Participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot and resolve escalations; contribute to post-mortems and actionable improvements. 
  • Compliance & Security: Ensure FedRAMP and DoD Impact Level 4 (IL4) compliance; collaborate with Security and Compliance teams. 
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Coach junior engineers, share knowledge in design and code reviews, and collaborate closely with Product, Test Engineers, and Tech Support. 

  • What you'll bring:
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent) 
  • Bachelor’s or in Computer Science (or related field), or equivalent hands-on experience 
  • Expertise in Scala and/or Java with Spring Boot; some proficiency in React or similar UI frameworksfor minor UI work. You will write code in Scala – but no existing knowledge of Scala isrequired. 
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, RESTful API design, event-driven architectures and data indexing 
  • Hands-on AWS experience. Understandingof availability zones and regions and general AWS ecosystems. 
  • Track record of delivering enterprise-grade, secure, high-performance software 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on reliability, observability and fault-tolerance 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain design trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences 
  • Experience with Terraform modules and GitLab CI/CD at scale 
  • Self-driven, eager to own features end-to-end and dive into the details
