Job Title: Senior Mortgage Underwriter

Primary Location: Michigan - Grand Rapids, Grand Blanc, Saginaw, or Livonia

Employee Status: Full-time, hourly

Remote: 100%

About This Position:

LMCU is looking for a Mortgage Underwriter to join our Mortgage Lending team. In this role, you'll be responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and approving mortgage loan applications in accordance with Credit Union policies and secondary market guidelines. You'll help ensure we deliver sound lending decisions that support both our members and organizational goals.

What You’ll Do:

  • Review and evaluate mortgage loan applications and documentation for compliance with LMCU and investor guidelines

  • Approve, deny, or request additional information to support sound underwriting decisions

  • Assess loan acceptability for sale to the secondary mortgage market

  • Document reasons for loan denial, citing applicable guidelines and standards

  • Assemble and finalize complete loan files for return to the originating department

What You’ll Bring:

  • 5–8 years of mortgage underwriting or related lending experience

  • In-depth knowledge of mortgage products, interest rates, and investor requirements

  • Familiarity with loan origination systems and credit union loan processes

  • Understanding of related products such as Execulines, second mortgages, swing loans, and land loans

  • Strong attention to detail, decision-making skills, and understanding of regulatory requirements
