We are seeking a Senior Transit Planner with a passion for developing transit systems that improve mobility, equity, and sustainability in communities. The ideal candidate brings a depth of experience in transit planning and operations, and thrives in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments. This role offers the opportunity to manage a variety of transit projects from early concept through implementation, while mentoring junior staff and contributing to business development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning and development of transit projects such as corridor plans, service evaluations, alternatives analyses, bus rapid transit (BRT) planning, and implementation strategies.
  • Coordinate and manage large-scale or complex transit planning efforts, often involving multidisciplinary teams and public engagement.
  • Analyze transit operations and performance data to develop improvement strategies, optimize services, and support investment decisions.
  • Guide and oversee data collection, technical analysis, spatial mapping, and report preparation.
  • Represent FHU in client meetings, public engagements, and presentations, both virtually and in person.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met on time and within budget.
  • Contribute to quality assurance and compliance with FHU’s QA/QC standards.
  • Support proposal development and actively participate in business development and client relationship building.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to their technical and professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in urban planning, transportation engineering, civil engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10–15 years of experience in transit planning or transportation planning, with demonstrated leadership on complex projects.
  • Deep knowledge of transit operations, service planning, and corridor evaluation methodologies.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience with scheduling, budgeting, and staff coordination.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and contribute to winning new work.
  • Experience with transit design integration, NEPA processes, and federal/state funding programs is a plus.
  • Licensure (AICP or PE) preferred but not required.

The pay for this position ranges from $90,000 - $125,000 annually. The actual offer will be based on a combination of factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience.
