Role Summary
Sophos is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Incident Response & Readiness Consultant to join the Sophos Advisory Services (SAS) team. The SAS team is an elite group of incident responders that are engaged by organizations worldwide to respond to and neutralize cyber threats. Our team is also focused on helping organizations prepare for incidents through plan development, assessments and table top exercises. The Senior Consultant works with clients in the growing area of cybersecurity incident response management. This role focuses on preparing clients to effectively handle cybersecurity incidents as well as occasionally providing advisory services to clients experiencing incidents. Helping clients prepare for incidents includes developing and evaluating response capabilities and plan documentation, delivering training, and conducting exercises to test response capabilities. The successful candidate will have experience in developing, managing, and operating incident response capabilities, conducting training, exercises and workshops, and will be familiar with tactics, techniques, and procedures commonly employed by threat actors and how to mitigate them. Familiarity with the drivers and constraints that organizations are working with and against while trying to secure their infrastructure and data is a necessity.

This is a remote position, that involves up to 60% travel, to deliver on site services such as Table Top exercises and IR Plan development.

What You Will Do
  • Serve as subject matter expert in incident response capability development and improvement
  • Manage consulting workload, client requirements, and internal projects and tasking as assigned
  • Design and deliver incident response exercises to test client incident response plans; oversee the delivery of exercises by other consultants
  • Develop detailed incident response plans and playbooks based on client needs
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of services that we deliver to clients and the processes that the team utilizes to deliver them
  • Provide objective, actionable, and complete guidance that enables and improves our customers’ incident management capabilities
  • Conduct assessments of client readiness to respond to incidents, including designing and delivering incident response exercises to test client incident response capabilities; review the assessments of other consultants
  • Support complex incident response; review analysis and conclusions of other consultants
  • Document findings, develop recommendations and present both orally and in written reports
  • Promote Sophos by participating in external speaking engagements, writing whitepapers and blogposts, and ensuring identification of opportunities for additional support to be provided to clients
  • Mentor junior staff

  • What You Will Bring
  • Minimum of 8 years of information security experience (Incident Response, Vulnerability Management, Risk and Governance, Threat Intelligence, Security Architecture, etc.)
  • Minimum of 5 years developing and managing incident response capabilities across multiple departments in an enterprise environment (IR Plans, Playbooks, Tabletop exercises, etc.)
  • Continuously learning and staying informed of the changing cyber security landscape
  • Excellent understanding of the Incident Response process
  • Excellent understanding of cyber risks and able to qualify them to customers
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Able to delegate and prioritize tasks across multiple engagements
  • Able to excel under stressful circumstances
  • Strong grasp of the MITRE ATT&CK framework
  • Enjoy mentoring and assisting in the development of team members
  • A team-player attitude with a willingness to share knowledge
  • Cybersecurity certifications an asset (e.g. CISSP, CISM, GCFA, GCIH, GCFE, or similar)is a plus
  • Experience with SIEM technology (e.g. Splunk, ELK, etc.) is a plus
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime during peak times or holidays is a plus
  • Willingness to work outside of normal working hours to support global customers is a plus
  • In the United States, the base salary for this role ranges from $131,000 to $219,000. In addition to base salary, we offer additional  compensation including bonus eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package.  A candidate’s specific pay within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including job-related skills, training, location, experience, relevant education, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
