Position Overview:
The Associate Director of Research Engagement serves as a key strategic partner to the Executive Director, helping drive Internet2's engagement with the national and global communities that support research cyberinfrastructure (CI). This leadership position works collaboratively across Internet2 and with external partner organizations to develop, coordinate, and implement programs that address the needs of RCD professionals and researchers. The Associate Director will manage cross-functional projects, lead community-building initiatives, design and execute community programming, provide campus consulting services, and foster relationships with stakeholders to achieve Research Engagement's strategic objectives.
This position requires deep knowledge of the research computing and data (RCD) ecosystem, strong leadership abilities, and excellent relationship management skills.
Responsibilities:
- Support development and implementation of Research Engagement’s strategic vision, goals and objectives as deputy to the Executive Director.
- Lead and manage cross-functional projects and initiatives that advance the mission of Internet2 Research Engagement, including coordinating with internal Internet2 teams and external community partners.
- Design, develop, and execute community programming including workshops, conferences, training sessions, and other events that support RCD professionals and researchers.
- Provide consulting services to Internet2 member and prospective member institutions on research computing and data infrastructure, strategies, and best practices.
- Conduct assessments of campus RCD capabilities, facilitate strategic planning discussions, and recommend approaches to enhance research support across various institutional contexts.
- Build and nurture strategic relationships with key stakeholders in the RCD community, including community organizations (e.g., CaRCC, MS-CC, RENs, US-RSE), funding agencies, and research institutions to further Internet2's research engagement objectives.
- Contribute to Research Engagement's communications strategy, ensuring effective and consistent messaging across various channels.
- Lead or contribute to grant writing efforts, including proposal development, budget planning, and implementation strategy.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a STEM field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in research computing, data management, or related field.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in research computing and data (RCD), preferably in a higher education or research institution setting.
- National recognition in research computing communities through committee work, speaking engagements, or publications.
- Experience developing and managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
- Experience designing and organizing community programming such as workshops, conferences, and training events.
- Demonstrated experience providing consulting services to academic institutions on research computing infrastructure and strategy.
- Deep understanding of the challenges facing RCD professionals and researchers in using advanced cyberinfrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of research computing technologies, communities, and resources.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated experience developing collaborative partnerships across organizations.
- Experience with grant writing, project management, and resource development
- Travel 10-20%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with NSF or other federal funding agencies and grant management.
- Experience with the CaRCC organization and the RCD Capabilities Model.
- Track record of successful campus consulting engagements related to research computing infrastructure.
- Experience organizing successful national or regional events focused on research computing.
- Knowledge of Internet2 services and infrastructure.
- Experience working with regional and national networks on research support.
- Experience in strategic planning and program development.
- Demonstrated ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
- Experience with workforce development initiatives in the RCD space.
- Familiarity with DEI initiatives in technology fields.
- Familiarity with research data management practices and policies.

Salary Range / Pay Grade:
$132,800 - $199,200 / IT-6
Starting pay is typically from the minimum up to the midpoint of the grade range and varies based on experience.
