About the Role:
 

The Actuary and Healthcare Economics (AHE) team radically improves the health of marginalized communities at scale by serving as the analytical engine that powers Cityblock’s growth, member impact, and financial success. The AHE team is critical to understanding the drivers of Cityblock’s current and potential effectiveness, and is a key advisor to stakeholders throughout the organization, including the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Finance, Accounting, Data Platform, Growth, Clinical Innovation, BOI Operations, and Markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Actuarial Leadership

    • Lead Cityblock’s Growth Actuary team, including people management of direct reports

    • Active upward management of expectations and progress. Able to run multiple projects simultaneously with high-level support. 

    • Own results by holding self and others accountable for high-quality, timely, and effective results.

    • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

    • Provide guidance on professional development and skill enhancement.

    • Manage all aspects of actuarial functions pertaining to business development, including underwriting, pricing, financial modeling, and supporting contract negotiations

  • Collaboration with Stakeholders:

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure actuarial strategies align with organizational objectives.

    • Consistently work with senior leadership by providing balanced actuarial insights and support strategic decision-making.

    • Act as a subject matter expert on actuarial matters in cross-functional meetings.

  • Financial Modeling & Forecasting:

    • Develop and maintain complex financial models to support strategic decision-making, pricing, and risk assessment.

    • Conduct scenario analysis to assess the financial impact of various initiatives and market trends.

    • Develop financial forecasts, working closely with finance and other relevant departments.

    • Provide accurate and timely financial information for organizational planning.
       

  • Risk Management:

    • Assess and manage financial risks related to insurance products, payment models, and other financial instruments.

    • Implement risk mitigation strategies to enhance the organization's financial resilience.
       

  • Regulatory Compliance:

    • Stay informed about healthcare regulations and actuarial standards.

    • Ensure actuarial practices and financial models comply with regulatory requirements.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Data Analytics/Science, or other relevant subject matter

  • 8+ years of actuarial industry experience, including direct prior experience with healthcare claims data, partner/provider analytics, payer-provider contracting, and/or value-based care. Medicare Advantage bid pricing experience preferred

  • Fellow or Associate of the Society of Actuaries (FSA or ASA) designation is required.

  • Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries is desirable

We take into account an individual’s qualifications, skillset, and experience in determining final salary. This role is eligible for health insurance, life insurance, retirement benefits, participation in the company’s equity program, paid time off, including vacation and sick leave. The actual offer will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by relevant business considerations, including the final candidate’s qualifications, years of experience, skillset, and geographic location. The expected salary range for this position is: 

$170,000 - $210,000
