Job description

The Verge is searching for an ambitious editor to reimagine coverage across the weekend.

You’ll be responsible for pitching and producing series that make The Verge a vibrant, must-visit destination each Saturday and Sunday. You’ll spend weekdays developing programming, conducting interviews, curating roundups, and assembling fun, smart, engaging weekend reads. Then on the weekend, you’ll cover breaking news and other exciting stories as they come up. This role requires working three weekdays and both Saturday and Sunday.

WHO WE ARE

The Verge is an ambitious multimedia effort founded in 2011 to examine how technology will change life in the future for a massive mainstream audience.

The Verge is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about what’s now, what’s next, and what’s possible.

As a community of journalists and storytellers, business professionals, creators and technologists, we believe it is a moral and business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization and media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, and our platforms, products, and partnerships.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Develop recurring series that run each weekend, working in collaboration with editors across The Verge’s team.
  • Write and produce those series — you’ll be the main writer, but our broader team can contribute, too.
  • Coordinate with other editors to schedule stories across the weekend.
  • Monitor the news and cover breaking stories and more on the weekend.
  • Curate the homepage, making sure our site looks great every minute of the day.

WHO YOU ARE

Candidates should have a passion for tech news and a deep interest in how it connects to the worlds of policy, entertainment, and beyond. We need someone who can cover a TikTok trend as easily as they can cover a court ruling about the TikTok ban. You should have expansive ideas for what our weekend coverage could look like — The Verge’s front page is a big canvas to fill, and we need someone who’s excited to create a vibrant array of stories to fill it.

You should have:

  • Newsroom experience as a writer and editor.
  • A deep familiarity with our coverage areas, particularly consumer tech.
  • A fountain of ideas for story formats.
  • A great sense of organization.
  • A rigid adherence to deadlines.
  • The ability to operate independently with confidence.
  • A sharp sense for great headlines and angles.
  • An eye for great stories.
  • The ability to move fast and pivot to meet the needs of an ever-evolving news cycle.

If you think you have what it takes, but don't meet every single point in our job posting, please apply with a cover letter to let us know how you believe you can bring your unique skills to the Vox Media team or get in touch! We’ve hired chefs who became editors, DJs who became UX designers, and sommeliers who became writers.
