Job Summary:

Optimyl Benefits is seeking an Underwriting Technician to assist our Underwriters in the quoting and submission process for Optimyl’s Medical stop-loss business. This position does not include the authority to bind business. However, the position is considered an entry-level opportunity that can lead to a career in underwriting. The Position:

  • Prepare new business submissions, including analysis of needed information for underwriters to review and quote.
  • Prepare census and run reports using external data sources that inform our underwriting.
  • Collect, organize, and audit new business and renewal submissions for compliance with Underwriting Guidelines, pricing, and accurate, fully executed contractual instruments.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Customer service – correspond with Sales and external Optimyl partners, requiring professional and responsive phone and email communications.
  • Manage the RFP workflow by compiling information and reports needed to underwrite quotes.
  • Process and maintain orderly electronic underwriting files for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, brokers, and suppliers.
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Adhere to company guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Uses various systems, tools and resources to obtain necessary data and accurately complete and track assigned work.
  • Other duties may be assigned as the business continues to develop.
  • Load eligibility and medical information in Optimyl’s application software in preparation for Underwriter risk assessment and pricing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree with relevant experience is highly preferred.
  • 2 or more years of group health insurance industry experience is preferred.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office product suite and the use of computer systems and various software applications, especially Excel.
  • Collaboration and teamwork.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrate ethical business practices with adherence to all privacy and confidentiality policies and regulations.
  • Analytical thinking and aptitude for evaluating and interpreting detailed information and data.
  • Ability to independently multi-task and respond to changing business priorities.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience and the ability to interact with a wide variety of people daily in person, via telephone, and email.
  • Possess the ability to learn and understand the Underwriting processes in order to assist the Underwriters.

 

 

Base Salary Range
$45,000$50,000 USD
