Position Summary:

As a designated Person-Centered Planning and Practices trainer, the Training Specialist will provide assistance and instruction to the Case Manager(s) and act as a first line resource. They must possess a strong foundation and have both knowledge and experience of various training methods, including face-to-face training and e-learning. The trainer will be responsible for creating and delivering training, including materials, tutorials, instructions, and learning resources such as online modules and guides. The ideal candidate will be a confident public speaker and a devoted educator who is up to date on the latest tools and resources needed to improve employee performance through effective training. Curriculum will be approved by either Vermont Agency of Human Services, Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living, Developmental Disabilities Services Division and Adult Services Division, and/or Columbus staff. Training locations and frequency will vary. The position works closely with the Case Manager Supervisor(s), Quality Assurance Department (QA), L&D Department and State Program Administrator to implement a shared vision, advance projects and establish priorities within the State.

Essential Functions:

 The Training Specialist responsibilities include the following:

  • Perform all tasks as assigned including but not limited to course development, technical assistance, facilitation, live training, webcast production, virtual training (webinar) hosting, etc.
  • Develop schedules for development and training sessions as required each month including securing free training spaces when required.
  • Provide feedback to the Program State Administrator and Director of Learning and Development on feedback received during training sessions in the region.
  • Attend required meetings with VT State Staff as required.
  • Provide required monthly and quarterly information and data as needed for reports.
  • Assist with promotion of training offerings.
  • Follow all policy and procedures related to VT and Columbus requirements.
  • Provide training on specific topics as determined by administration and as consistent with background and expertise of trainer, using existing curricula, as needed.
  • Design, prepare, and order training aids and materials.
  • Participate in and successfully complete any VT state training programs. Successful completion is defined as being able to competently and independently assume training of specified curricula after observing the training once, co-training once, and presenting the training alone no more than twice with the mentor present to provide minimal assistance as needed, or as determined appropriate by outreach administration for the specific curricula.
  • Attend all required training annually and as needed.
  • Participate in review and revision of curricula with other key staff annually or more frequently if needed.
  • Work closely with State Program Administrator, Director of Learning and Development, supervisors and state staff on the development of new training topics.
  • Complete data analysis and summary reports as required.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities including staff reviews.
  • Assists with programmatic oversight regarding training and assists in assessing staff’s competency.
  • Monitors Team’s adherence to training contractual deliverables to ensure compliance of service delivery and accuracy of mandated reporting requirements.
  • Participates in program planning, implementation and coordination to ensure that program training objectives and current operations are in compliance with department and Federal/State rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Assists with analyzing employee training competencies with Supervisor(s), State Program Administrator and Quality Enhancement Coordinator to ensure desired outcomes are addressed and conducted.
  • Provides reports to the State Program Administrator, and other appropriate parties to reinforce the Training program effectiveness.
  • Partners with State Program Administrator and Columbus Leadership to implement a shared vision, advance projects and establish priorities.
  • Assists with the development of strategic and programmatic plans for their assigned staff as part of office Leadership team. Provides timelines and resources needed to achieve the person- centered service plan program goals.
  • Provides input into the development, planning, and strategies, focusing on areas for growth and improvement.
  • Assists in the development of opportunities for new funding streams and contracts with regional, State and federal government entities.
  • Assists the Teams efforts to strengthen and build local and national partnerships with outside organizations aimed at fostering the development of collaborative projects.
  • Advances community outreach focusing on Columbus programs and services, increasing the company’s visibility with potential State agencies and programs.
  • Assists in ensuring that assigned staff are compliant with all accrediting bodies such as CARF and that appropriate quality assurance programs are complied with.
  • Presents to and consults with Team on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and markets.
  • Creates an environment that fosters teamwork, cooperation, respect, diversity and service to customers.
  • All other duties as assigned by the State Program Administrator or other authorized parties.
  • This position will require travel within the assigned service areas.  The successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license, have access to reliable transportation, and be able to travel to various locations as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

The position is remote.

Required Experience:

  • Two years’ experience as a trainer or related position which includes creating and delivering training materials, tutorials, instructions, and learning resources such as online modules and guides to meet staff training needs.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to provide effective training for Team personnel.
  • High level of initiative, self-direction and accountability for actions required.
  • Skill in promoting multidisciplinary collaboration; ability to act as a facilitator and change agent required.
  • Analytical ability to assist staff, as well as resolution of complex programmatic issues.
  • Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with fellow employees, outside agencies and state personnel.
  • Must have knowledge of Vermont’s public service system for developmental disabilities services and brain injury services and Have experience with the Department’s state statutes, state rules, definitions, program requirements, program specific services, variances and exceptions.
  • Must have case management experience in supporting individuals with disabilities, special education, sociology, vocational rehabilitation and/or employment, protection and advocacy, psychology, substance use, aging, healthcare, social work, or other related field.
  • Must reside in Vermont.

 

Preferred Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in human services from an accredited college or university is preferred with at least 2 years’ experience as a trainer or related position.
