We’re a small team within Alan, on a mission to redefine the future of care by democratizing access to medical expertise. We are building Mo, an intelligent, empathetic, multimodal LLM-based conversational AI assistant able to prescribe, triage, and proactively follow up on care.

We’re building a medical agent that works — reliably, safely, and at scale.

You’ll work at the intersection of AI research and clinical application. Our mission is to build the most accurate and reliable medical agent in the world, while delivering an outstanding conversational experience. Things we’re working on:

  • 🧬 Build internal medical models — You’ll develop and evaluate foundation models and fine-tuned architectures for structured clinical reasoning. This includes working with curated datasets (e.g. clinical cases, EMRs, guidelines), building doctor-like reasoning agents, and iterating closely with medical experts.

  • 📚Inject knowledge in clinical workflows — You’ll augment generation with structured clinical knowledge (e.g. drug databases, guidelines) using retrieval pipelines and hallucination-mitigation strategies.

  • 🗣️ Push the frontier of voice-based agents for healthcare  — You’ll research and deploy streaming speech recognition and context-aware state switching — enabling Mo to handle real-time dialogue like a human clinician would.

  • 📊 Develop eval frameworks for clinical AI —You’ll design and run evals, by hand and programmatically, to understand where our agents fail and improve them.

  • 🧠 Build lifelong memory and personalization infrastructure — You’ll explore architectures for dynamic memory and personalized reasoning, enabling Mo to be a personal, relevant health companion

🎯 Is it you we’re looking for?

We’re looking for Research Scientists with 3+ years of experience (or equivalent research track record) who get excited about building state-of-the-art AI systems and applying them to real-world, high-stakes problems in healthcare.

  • You’ll work at the frontier of LLMs, multi-agent architectures, and human-in-the-loop learning — and see your work deployed in production, helping real people.

  • You’ll tackle open-ended, high-risk research problems that demand rigor, creativity, and speed.

  • You’ll work at the intersection of AI research and healthcare products, collaborating daily with doctors, engineers, and designers.

  • You’ll have significant influence on research directions, system architecture, and evaluation methodology.

  • You’ll mentor engineers and scientists, contribute to our research culture, and help build the team (including participating in hiring, shaping our interview loops, etc.).

You would be a good fit at Alan if most of this sounds like you:

  • Strong background in machine learning, deep learning, and/or large-scale model training

  • Experience with LLMs, RLHF, multi-agent systems, retrieval-augmented generation, or speech processing is a big plus

  • Product-minded: you want your research to be used, not just written about

  • Self-directed and pragmatic 

  • Humble and still willing to grow (no matter your seniority!)

  • Collaborative, enthusiastic about teamwork, learning, and teaching

  • Fluent in English (no need to speak French!)
