Job Description And Duties

OEHHA’s Cancer Toxicology and Epidemiology Section (CTES) is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic Cancer Epidemiology Research Scientist to join our multidisciplinary team as a Research Scientist III (Epidemiology/Biostatistics). CTES provides technical support for listing chemicals as causing cancer under Proposition 65, analyzes dose-response data, and develops guidance for assessing risks of exposure to chemical carcinogens. Primary responsibilities will include cancer hazard identification, dose response analysis, and exposure assessment activities.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Proficiency in principles of epidemiology, public health, and chemical and physical agents in the environment, with specific expertise in the area of human cancer epidemiology.
  • Proficiency in conducting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from scientific research, disease surveillance, epidemiologic-based investigations, and exposure science for application to issues of public health, with expertise in research investigating incidence of human cancer.
  • Knowledge of distribution and determinants of disease, health, and genetic conditions in the population.
  • Knowledge of statistical software for analyzing epidemiological data.
  • Knowledge of human toxicology and risk assessment.
  • Ability and willingness to handle complex technical issues, multiple activities/projects, and urgent deadlines.
  • Ability to function effectively and work cooperatively in a team.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

This position may be located either at 1515 Clay Street, 16th Floor, Oakland, or at 1001 I Street, 12th Floor, Sacramento, California.
