PLATFORM ENGINEER - NETWORK SPECIALIZATION (PORTUGAL)

As part of its sustained growth, Gaming1 is looking for a Platform Engineer with network specialization to join its Platform team. This role will be responsible for designing and implementing network infrastructure as code, creating self-service network capabilities, and ensuring high availability, security, and performance as part of our internal developer platform.

YOUR ROLE

At GAMING1, Platform Engineers are the builders and maintainers of the technical capabilities that power our internal developer platform. We treat our platform as a product, with our engineering teams as our customers, and our core principle is providing self-serviceability to reduce cognitive load and empower these teams. With a focus on network infrastructure, you will:

• Design and implement network capabilities as Infrastructure-as-Code, focusing on automation and self-service
• Create reusable templates and patterns for network configurations
• Build observability into network infrastructure for proactive monitoring and troubleshooting
• Implement and maintain security best practices across network components
• Validate and maintain disaster recovery procedures
• Research, experiment with, and evaluate new technologies to drive platform innovation
• Collaborate with other engineers to create a cohesive internal developer platform
• Evangelize platform capabilities through documentation and workshops
• Collect and act on user feedback to continuously improve the platform experience

YOUR PROFILE

Required Qualifications and Mindset:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of professional experience in network engineering with a platform engineering mindsee
• Strong network engineering background with Fortinet focus (FortiGate, FortiSwitch)
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code principles, using tools such as Ansible and Terraform
• Ability to write Python scripts (or equivalent) to automate tasks across network layers
• Knowledge of cybersecurity standards and procedures related to network infrastructure
• Understanding of WAN protocols (BGP, IPsec) and network architecture principles

What Sets Great Candidates Apart:

• Fortinet NSE 4 certification (or higher) or equivalent practical experience
• Experience with Cloudflare (DNS management, WAF, anti-DDoS, Magic Transit)
• Product thinking: ability to understand developer needs and create self-service capabilities
• Willingness to take calculated risks and experiment with new approaches to solve difficult problems
• Experience with one or more observability tools such as DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, Tenable, Elastic Security
• Knowledge of container orchestration (Kubernetes) and how it integrates with network infrastructure
• Experience with public cloud network infrastructure (AWS) Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and how they relate to network automation
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team while knowing when to work autonomously
• Strong communication skills and ability to teach complex network concepts
