Job description

Who We Are:

SmithRx is a rapidly growing, venture-backed Health-Tech company.  Our mission is to disrupt the expensive and inefficient Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) sector by building a next-generation drug acquisition platform driven by cutting edge technology, innovative cost saving tools, and best-in-class customer service.  With hundreds of thousands of members onboarded since 2016, SmithRx has a solution that is resonating with clients all across the country.

We pride ourselves for our mission-driven and collaborative culture that inspires our employees to do their best work. We believe that the U.S healthcare system is in need of transformation, and we come to work each day dedicated to making that change a reality. At our core, we are guided by our company values:

  • Integrity: Our purpose guides our actions and gives us confidence in the path ahead. With unwavering honesty and dependability, we embrace the pressure of challenging the old and exemplify ethical leadership to create the new.
  • Courage: We face continuous challenges with grit and resilience. We embrace the discomfort of the unknown by balancing autonomy with empathy, and ownership with vulnerability. We boldly challenge the status quo to keep moving forward—always.
  • Together: The success of SmithRx reflects the strength of our partnerships and the commitment of our team. Our shared values bind us together and make us one. When one falls, we all fall; when one rises, we all rise.

You’ll take ownership of the user experience strategy for a defined product area, guiding design from discovery through execution and iteration. Collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, and fellow designers, you'll champion user-centered design principles, influence product roadmaps, and ensure our solutions meet both user needs and strategic business goals. You’ll bring a product-thinking mindset, advanced interaction and visual design skills, and a passion for improving how people experience our innovative healthcare tools, while playing a key role in advancing our design culture. You’ll join a collaborative design team of 4, reporting to our Senior Design Manager.

In order to be eligible for this position applicants must be based in one of the following states: Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin.

Why This Role is Exciting:

SmithRx is at a dynamic stage of design evolution. With new products launching and the influence of design rapidly expanding, this is a unique opportunity for a Senior Product Designer to significantly shape not only outstanding user experiences but also the strategic role of design within the organization. Here’s what makes this role particularly exciting:

  • Drive Tangible Impact: You’ll lead design initiatives that result in measurable improvements to key user experience and business metrics, directly contributing to product success and helping define these success metrics.
  • Shape Product Strategy: Your expertise will be crucial in shaping product direction. You’ll translate user research and data-driven insights into recommendations that influence product roadmaps and champion user-centered priorities.
  • Elevate Design Culture & Maturity: You’ll be instrumental in building a robust design culture, contributing to our design maturity by helping to refine how we prioritize, collaborate, mentor, and deliver user-centered solutions that drive business impact.
  • Own and Innovate on Complex Challenges: You’ll take ownership of the user experience strategy for significant product areas, tackling complex problems and delivering innovative, high-quality design solutions that make a real difference.

What you will do:

  • Own UX Strategy: You will develop and own the user experience strategy for a defined product area (e.g., Admin Portal, Member Portal). This includes defining user needs, conducting competitive analysis, and aligning with the long-term design vision.
  • Lead Design Initiatives: You will lead design efforts throughout the entire product lifecycle – from discovery and ideation, through wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals, to post-launch analysis and iteration.
  • Strategic Problem Solving: You will tackle complex design challenges, transforming them into intuitive, accessible, and scalable solutions for web and mobile platforms that align with user needs, business goals, and the overall product vision.
  • Drive Design System Evolution: You will actively contribute to and drive the evolution of our design system. This involves developing and maintaining UI patterns, contributing complex new components, and creating documentation that enhances consistency and efficiency.
  • Champion User Research: You will independently plan, conduct, and analyze a variety of user research studies (e.g., usability testing, interviews, surveys). You'll translate complex findings into actionable insights and strategic design recommendations that influence product decisions.
  • Collaborate & Influence: You will work closely with product managers to define requirements and with engineers to ensure technical feasibility. You'll effectively articulate design rationale, influence stakeholders, and align cross-functional teams around a shared vision.
  • Measure & Iterate: You will help define and measure product KPIs by conducting usability testing, analyzing user data, and iterating on designs to achieve desired outcomes and improve user experiences.
  • Mentor & Develop: You will provide consistent design direction, mentorship, and constructive feedback to Designers and Associate Designers, fostering a culture of design excellence and amplifying team impact through knowledge sharing.
  • Improve Design Operations: You will contribute to the continuous improvement of our design processes, workflows, and tools, advocating for best practices within the team.

What you will bring to SmithRx:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Design, HCI, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing digital products across web and mobile platforms, with a strong portfolio showcasing your ability to solve complex problems, deliver impactful end-to-end product experiences, and demonstrate strong interaction and visual design skills.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills – with the ability to articulate design decisions clearly, influence stakeholders at various levels, and foster alignment across cross-functional teams.
  • A proactive mindset, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and skilled in identifying opportunities to improve the user experience and advocate for user needs while balancing technical constraints and business objectives.
  • Experience mentoring other designers and contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture.
