For our client, we are currently looking for a Senior Director Marketing - Publications



THE CLIENT

Our client is a tech-bio startup that develops cutting-edge AI methods in genome, protein and large language models to accelerate drug discovery and translational medicine. Due to their rapid growth they are looking to expand their Data/AI Engineering team Basel, Zurich and Lausanne.



YOUR ROLE:

The Director of Marketing will be responsible for the strategic development and execution of product launch initiatives to drive the visibility, engagement, and growth of the client. This role requires a seasoned marketing professional with a proven track record in scientific publishing, a deep understanding of digital tools, and the ability to communicate scientific concepts. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader who understands the scientific publishing industry, has driven digital transformation, and is comfortable providing strategic guidance to software development teams based on market feedback.



YOUR TASKS:

Strategic Marketing & Planning:

  • Develop and implement integrated marketing strategies to achieve the client’s strategic goals, with a focus on launching and promoting new publications.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, opportunities within the scientific publishing landscape.


New Journal Launch & Development:

  • Spearhead the launch of new open-access journals, including defining journal scope, target audience, and unique value propositions.
  • Develop and execute strategies for author acquisition, readership growth, and journal indexing.
  • Along with the Scientific Director, establish and manage editorial boards, ensuring the recruitment of high-profile academics and researchers.


Digital Marketing & Transformation:

  • Lead the digital marketing strategy, leveraging SEO, SEM, content marketing, email marketing, and social media to maximize online visibility and engagement.
  • Oversee the development and optimization of digital platforms, including the organization’s website, journal portals, and AI tool interfaces, providing user requirements and market feedback to our software development teams.
  • Implement data analytics to track user behavior, measure campaign effectiveness, and inform data-driven decisions.


Content Creation & Communication:

  • Oversee the creation of compelling and scientifically accurate marketing content, including press releases, articles, blog posts, newsletters, and multimedia materials.
  • Develop and manage the organization’s communication strategy to effectively engage with researchers, academics, industry professionals, and the public.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and brand representation across all channels.


Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration:

  • Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including academic institutions, research organizations, industry partners, and funding agencies.
  • Represent the client at industry conferences, academic seminars, and public events


Team Leadership & Management:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the marketing team, fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and high performance.
  • Manage the marketing budget, allocate resources effectively, and ensure efficient utilization of funds.



REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Several years of progressive marketing experience, with a significant focus on scientific publishing and journal launches an deep understanding of the scientific research and publishing ecosystem.
  • Proven success in developing and implementing digital marketing strategies and driving digital transformation initiatives.
  • Excellent leadership skills with demonstrated ability to build and manage high-performing marketing teams.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including CRM, CMS, SEO/SEM, and social media analytics.
