Job description

National Manager Cymru (Wales) & The Channel Islands

35 hours per week

Closing Date: 20th May 2025

Salary: £44,000

Home Based with extensive travel throughout Wales and the Channel Islands.

The British Horse Society is the nation’s largest equine charity with a passion for horses that is backed by knowledge and expertise. The BHS represents and provides a range of services for horse riders, horse owners, enthusiasts and professionals.

Location: This role is home based with extensive travel throughout Wales and the Channel Islands. Our head office is near Stoneleigh in Warwickshire so there will be occasional times you will need to travel to our office.

Hours: Our usual full-time hours are 35 a week – with an early finish on a Friday!. You will need a flexible approach to working hours as significant evening and weekend work will be required. You will also need to reside in Wales and have access to home office facilities with good connectivity.

A full driving licence with own vehicle are essential, as are good IT skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and social media administration.

Position:

The National Manager (NM) is accountable for building and leading a strong BHS community and presence within Wales, lobbying and influencing on behalf of BHS at the highest levels and in partnership with a range of stakeholders. The NM will also deliver our core objectives around participation, education, welfare, access, and safety through a programme of events and engagement activities.

National Mangers (NMs) are often the first point of contact with the BHS; therefore you need to be able to develop good working relationships with a diverse range of people. This will include Members of the Senedd, representatives of other organisations whose work impacts on the objectives of the Society, volunteers, members of the public, colleagues, show organisers, riding school and livery yard proprietors, instructors and trainers.

Together with the Development Director and the wider team, the National Manager will seek to identify strategic opportunities which can improve the service we provide to members, non-members, partners, and supporters.

National Manager's liaise with all relevant, Welsh Government Departments for the purpose of promoting BHS objectives and ensuring that the needs and views of the equestrian community are represented in relevant policy developments.

The National Manager will provide Wales-specific guidance and direction to relevant colleagues and support staff, as required and will contribute to the development of our influencing strategy.

Requirements:

What you will be doing:

Providing a consistently high standard of service to members, non-members, partners, and the public in promoting the work of the BHS

Providing a wide range of face to face and virtual activities, both directly and through local volunteer committees, which meet the needs of equestrians in your nation e.g. CPD and training opportunities for those working towards BHS professional and recreational awards, lecture/demonstrations, educational talks, clinics, camps, and pleasure rides.

Support Approved Centres in the nation ensuring centres are well informed and promoted, working closely with the Approved Centre team and relevant Business Support Manager

Collaborate with Access Field Officer and Welfare Field Officer in your nation (where applicable) to deliver activities that further the BHS Access and Welfare objectives.

Together with the Development Director, preparing and managing national budgets every year ensuring timeliness and accuracy of forecasts, purchase orders and payments.
