We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join us as an ER Specialist to join us on a 6 Month Fixed Term Contract.

Summary of Role:

Working as part of the ER Team the ER Specialist will managing a broad and varied complex caseload across the whole business. Providing full case management support, coaching and advice to Line Managers and Leadership Teams on a wide range of formal ER cases.



Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Provide detailed and comprehensive ER case management support, advice and guidance on complex cases and issues to Line managers, leadership teams within the business on the full range of ER issues that arise across the group in line with SLAs.
  • Case Management Support would include but is not limited to; business change initiatives including consultation, restructures etc., disciplinary, grievance, capability, flexible working, formal absence, consultations, ACAS negotiations and tribunal preparation.
  • Ensure all advice given is presented and explained in a practical and workable business solution that highlights and mitigates any potential risks considering the commercial requirements of the business.
  • To lead on complex cases working collaboratively with the wider HR Team and the business to ensure the best possible outcomes and ensuring data is captured and recorded accurately.
  • Advising and coaching Line Managers in producing well prepared and comprehensive outcome letters.
  • To lead on the management and resolution of complex and/or formal sickness absence issues including ill health capability dismissal cases and advising on complex occupational health referrals.
  • To lead on Employment Tribunal responses where appropriate including drafting grounds of resistance for low-risk cases.
  • To draft and support the business with Settlement Agreements and COT3's as appropriate.
  • To undertake negotiations with ACAS as appropriate taking into account instruction from the business.
  • Establishing strong relationships with Line managers and leadership Teams and wider HR Business Partnering Team influencing managers of varying seniority across the business.
  • Working in partnership with the ER Advisory Team and Senior HR Business Partner (ER & Change) interpreting metrics and data insights to support decision making and overall reduction of ER cases and to provide key insights and reporting on a monthly basis to enable and support decisions required at strategic level.
  • To undertake formal mediation resolution across the business as required.
  • Support consultations and any change, including restructures and redundancy programmes.
  • Liaising with Senior HR Business Partner and the legal team to highlight risk with any employment issues.
  • Supporting and working with the ER Advisors in the development of policies, procedures, guidance documents and toolkits in accordance with legislation, recent case learnings or best practices including data insights/metrics.
  • Support and work in conjunction with the wider HR Team on any companywide projects.
  • To keep up to date with developments in employment legislation and human resources best practice, knowledge sharing with the team to ensure continuous improvement in the service offered
  • Although based from home, to travel to practice sites and other company locations from time to time as required.



Key Skills Required:

  • Level 7 CIPD qualified or relevant equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Demonstratable experience of managing a full complex ER case load (including issues such as business Change initiatives (consultations, restructures) employment tribunals, Ill health capability dismissals, collective grievances, TUPE transfers, whistleblowing) within a fast-paced multisite environment, with a sound knowledge, understanding and practical application of employment law.
  • An ability to operate at pace and manage multiple cases at any one time.
  • Ability to make decisions using good judgement, with a pragmatic approach to problem solving keeping commercial focus and the forefront.
  • An ability to take a firm handle on ER issues – asking the right questions to understand a case and have the ability to apply the relevant legal principles and risk assessment.
  • A proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to influence and coach stakeholders at all levels.
  • Trained mediator would be desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and written.
  • Able to communicate with large groups as a facilitator and trainer.
  • Determination and drive for excellent results.
  • Highly organised and able to prioritise work in a busy environment.
  • Team orientated with a high level of integrity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel and working with a HRIS or case management system/approach
  • Knowledge of ROI employment legislation would be an advantage
  • Experience with HR Information Systems and data interpretation.
  • Ability to build and develop trust and confidence, a strong communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills.
