PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Manager of global pharma strategic procurement is responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies with suppliers in support of Fresenius Medical Care. Responsible for global category management, strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, contracting, and ongoing supplier management for assigned category. Coordinates with Procurement Partner(s) and key stakeholders to ensure alignment of procurement strategies. The successful candidate will assist in the development of the category management strategy globally in alignment with four procurement pillars: Procurement Partnering, Global Category Management, Center of Expertise and Procurement Operations. The ideal candidate for this role possesses the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal colleagues and stakeholders and ensure that category strategies cross-functionally are aligned.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Global Category Management

  • Assists with supplier qualification, supplier selection, contract development with legal, implementation, compliance, ongoing supply base management process, and RFPs utilizing Jaggaer
  • Leverages proven methods to assist in the development of 3-to-5-year regional/global sourcing strategies focused on identifying and contracting with suppliers that meet category management and business partner goals
  • Helps drive, develop, and implement multi-year category (sub-category) plans for  all pharma categories, including demand aggregation, definition of buying channels, strategic relationship management, and supplier risk management
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends, supplier capabilities, innovation, tariffs, and changes within the technology landscape and ckd/esrd landscape.
  • Identifies, develops and leads/supports opportunities to optimize spend, reduce year over year total cost of ownership, mitigate supply risks, improve services, bring innovation, and assure supply
  • Leads or supports cross functional supplier selection activities and management of formal strategic sourcing processes.
  • Performs proposal analysis, price analyses, “Should Cost” modeling, benchmarking, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) , and cost benefit analysis.
  • Develops negotiation strategy, including targets for costs and key commercial/business terms
  • Working in conjunction with Legal, drafts, maintains and negotiates key legal and commercial terms and contracts
  • Evaluates financial stability of suppliers and manages supplier risks as needed
  • Champions use of eSourcing, Spend Visibility, and R2P tools company-wide; including assisting with data classification and system projects
  • Actively manages key supplier relationships in collaboration with Operations and/or Vendor Management Office, including resolution of issues and disputes
  • Proactively engages and work closely with the Procurement Business Partner(s), other Category Managers, and cross-functional stakeholders/teams to gather business requirements to develop, share and implement category strategies 
  • Capture value in internal systems, including confirming rebates based on contract with suppliers, accounting, and finance
  • Own GPO & Wholesale relationships and contracts, ensuring that they are updated in a timely basis and maintained in the various systems
  • Manages global supplier relationships and products, decreases cost, maximizes reimbursement, leverages scale, and establishes global SOPs for transfer of knowledge
  • Own the process of adding, updating and securing all savings for category in Wave and/or other identified tracking systems
  • Manages toward procurement KPI’s such as spend under contract, payments terms, etc.  KPI’s to be regularly updated.
  • Actively manage and execute new and existing contracts as requested, conducting thorough reviews to guarantee contracts are robust and align with organizational standards and objectives

Procurement Partnering

  • Proactively engages Global Business Partners and functional stakeholders to gather business requirements for category strategy development
  • Creates and maintains a communication mechanism to ensure coordination with internal stakeholders and reporting of sourcing impact
  • Drives adoption of global sourcing strategies across the enterprise and ensures ongoing cross team collaboration
  • Effectively collaborates with internal Global Pharma Category team and Regional Procurement to create shared expertise across categories for all areas of spend; APIs, Biologics, Injectables, Oral Solids, and OTC/Other

EDUCATION:

  • BS/BA Degree required
  • Advanced degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Advanced negotiations skills courses, a plus

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Minimum of 7 years' related education and experience with a Bachelor's degree; or a Master's degree; or equivalent directly related work experience
  • 5+ years of procurement, contract negotiation and management experience
  • 1-3 years of experience with the latest procurement and contract management solutions
  • 1-2 years of direct industry or company experience
  • Project management expertise with the ability to carry projects from planning through implementation.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of contract terms and conditions, including DPA, GDPR, ESG and others.
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills with ability to identify opportunities, create value and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills; familiarity and knowledge of Agile ways of working.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills including expectation management
  • Able to prioritize multiple initiatives/projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work in and/or manage virtual, geographically dispersed, multi-national, cross-cultural teams
  • Able to collaborate and communicate with senior executives and stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Able to tailor communication and context across diverse geographic backgrounds and cultural settings
  • Able to negotiate the best possible terms with strategic suppliers that have a far-reaching impact on our business.
  • Able to develop relationships and build both a strong direct and indirect sphere of influence
