Description
The ODS performs data abstraction by capturing complete patient history, diagnosis, staging, and treatment information for all patients accessioned into the cancer registry by the American College of Surgeon Commission on Cancer (ACS CoC), the Florida Cancer Data System, and customer-specific requirements. It also runs edits on abstracts and makes the necessary corrections to them.
The ODS stays abreast of changes to industry guidelines and standards and communicates professionally and effectively with customers, managers, and colleagues both orally and utilizing electronic methods. The ODS participates in Peer Group activities. The ODS exhibits professionalism, flexibility, dependability, commitment to customer service, and a desire to learn. The ODS possesses excellent organizational skills and the ability to adhere to deadlines.
The estimated pay range for this position is $26.50 - $34.45 / hour, depending on experience.
Qualifications
Degrees:
- Associates Degree is required.
Licenses & Certifications
- NCRA Oncology Data Specialist.
Additional Qualifications
- Must be a certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS).
- Minimum of five years cancer registry abstracting experience in a Commission on Cancer (CoC) approved cancer registry.
- Knowledge of CR Star and Cerner preferred.
- Takes ownership of certification including keeping up with education and the required skill set to perform as a ODS.
- Must be adaptable and flexible in a changing work environment that requires continuous upgrading of skills.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to function independently with little supervision.
