The Role
The Sr Mgr, Software Engineering is responsible for helping to design and implement our vision for the future of the<sup _ngcontent-ng-c4074016069="" data-turn-source-index="1"> Lumen. We're seeking a highly experienced Senior Manager to spearhead the development and implementation of our next-generation Data Platforms and Data Governance strategy on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). In this pivotal role, you will establish a robust and scalable data foundation, ensuring certified and democratized data to power analytics, reporting, and future AI initiatives across the organization. We're looking for a candidate with deep technical expertise in GCP data services and a proven ability to lead data engineering teams and manage stakeholders effectively

This role is designated as a fully remote position within the United States.
The Main Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy and execution for building and managing our next-generation GCP Data Platforms (including the Data Lakehouse), ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Establish and enforce a comprehensive Data Governance framework to ensure data quality, compliance, and accessibility.
- Lead and mentor the data engineering team in architectural design, pipeline development, project delivery, and stakeholder engagement for our data platforms.
- Drive data democratization initiatives, enabling self-service access to certified data and supporting reporting/analytics through clear communication.
- Manage stakeholder/vendor engagement.
- Collaborate with the product owner and team to prioritize delivery and clarify requirements (testability, consistency, completeness).
- Advocate, adopt, and coach the team on lean, agile, and DevOps engineering practices.
- Establish best practices and technology standards for the delivery lifecycle (automation, security).
- Support team members through HR processes (career growth, performance reviews, blocker removal).
- Embrace and model a culture that promotes an empowered team environment, acting as a servant leader.

What We Look For in a Candidate
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or related roles.
- Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in a Manager role.
- Significant hands-on experience designing, building, and implementing Data Lakehouse solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Deep expertise in Google BigQuery and strong proficiency in SQL, with experience in Oracle or other SQL databases.
- Proven experience implementing and managing Data Governance frameworks and tools, preferably Informatica IDMC.
- Preferred coding skills in Python, Java, or Scala, with experience in data processing and ETL/ELT.
- Hands-on experience with core GCP services relevant to data engineering (e.g., Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Cloud Composer/Apache Airflow, Dataflow).
- Strong understanding of GCP security and compliance principles, including specific BigQuery security measures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of data visualization and reporting tools like Looker or PowerBI.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
Location Based Pay Ranges:
$129,639 - $172,852 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$136,121 - $181,494 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$142,603 - $190,137 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
