Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager will work closely with the Accounting Director and other members of the finance and accounting team related to all accounting aspects of agilon health and its consolidated entities as assigned. 

Essential Job Functions:

                                                                                                                                   

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes (i.e. full accounting cycle) and ensure timelines are being met on a consistent basis for assigned markets. 
  • Manage, train, and supervise a team of staff and senior accountants.
  • Process and approve financial and operational transactions in General Ledgers for business line operations.  Ensure General Ledger for assigned markets is closed accurately and timely.  Currently using Workday financial system for all General Ledger accounting.
  • Reviews account reconciliations on all balance sheet accounts and analyzes them to determine the appropriateness of the balances.  Prepares reconciliations on certain higher-risk account balances.
  • Ensure proper compliance with SOX and internal controls
  • Provides support for year-end audit as well as quarterly filings.
  • Participate in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting packages to management.
  • Prepare appropriate commentary or explanations relating to questions from management, budget variances, etc. and work closely with FP&A group as well as market finance directors.
  • Review, investigate and resolve significant accounting and reporting issues.
  • Interact with operating and staff personnel to supply or explain data and secure information.
  • Identify and help implement process improvement opportunities as they relate to the Accounting and Finance groups.
  • Establish and help maintain department policies and procedures and training guides, as well as establishing enhanced documentation for all accounting-related functions.
  • Review key contracts and complex arrangements to ensure compliance with US GAAP.
  • Support and implement new Accounting pronouncement changes when applicable to agilon health.
  • Support business units across assigned markets.
  • Protects protected health information (PHI) in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
  • Performs special projects and analyses, as well as additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum Experience

  • 5+ years public accounting or 8+ years private industry accounting experience, including prior management experience.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and lack of structure – as a newly formed entity, many of agilon’s financial and accounting processes have yet to be established or are recently established.
  • Previous combination experience (public accounting experience plus private industry) is strongly preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of US GAAP principals and SOX internal control environments; ability to identify key accounting issues and apply correct treatment under US GAAP.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill.
  • Ability to engage and influence multi-level staff up to executive management.
  • Prior experience leading teams required.
  • Corporate accounting experience (preferred, but not required).
  • Prior experience in managed care industry (preferred, but not required).
  • Strong in Microsoft products, in particular Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Able to work independently and use independent judgment.

Education/Licensure:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with active CPA license strongly preferred

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to be a team player and exercise initiative in responding requests and concerns in a helpful and courteous manner. Provide excellent customer service techniques. General understanding of the health care industry, ideally the provider relations field-desired. Excellent interpersonal and telephone communication skills are required. Exercise attention to detail; ability to provide accurate data entry. Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision, multi-task, complete projects in a timely fashion and meet deadlines a must. Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills a must. Language Skills: Strong communication skills both written and verbal to work with multiple internal and external clients in a fast-paced environment Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Computer Skills: Ability to create and maintain documents using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel a must.

Pay Range:
$100,000.00 - $122,600.00

Salary range shown is a guideline. Individual compensation packages can vary based on factors unique to each candidate, such as skill set, experience, and qualifications.
