The Medium Voltage Service Specialist is responsible for coordinating services of medium voltage transformers and components in the field in conjunction with SMA Inverters and SMA Medium Voltage Power Platform solutions. Duties include training, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and analyzing medium voltage transformers and associated equipment. Serve as liaison between SMA and medium voltage transformer vendors and customers to facilitate medium voltage transformers services. |
Primary duties / responsibilities |
Safely commissions, troubleshoots, repairs, and analyzes medium voltage transformers and components in the field, via email, telephone and site visits. |
Develops a detailed knowledge of medium voltage transformers including, theory, operations testing and repair. |
Serves as medium voltage transformer subject matter expert and provides training to SMA Field Service Engineers. |
Develops a basic knowledge of field transformer testing including, voltage testing, DGA analysis, power factor (PFVH), and TTR & VLF measurements. |
Maintains a detailed working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA70E & National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). |
Regularly works with high voltage DC electricity, three phase power |
Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction while striving to lower the costs of field service. |

At least 5 years of field experience working on medium voltage systems and/or components as an electrician, journeyman, or engineer is required. Experience in Medium Voltage (MV) and on MV Transformers is required Prior experience in the solar energy industry is strongly preferred.

Other specialized skills |
Knowledge of solar and/or alternative energy markets is preferred. Knowledge of National Electric Code is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels within the SMA organization, its customers, integrators and suppliers are required. Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, is required. German and/or Spanish language skills are a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is strongly preferred. Expert ability to analyze and solve problems effectively. Expert ability to train others effectively in the field and in a training room environment. This position requires significant domestic travel and occasional international travel.
