Job description

Summary

As a public and profitable company, we have ambitious plans to scale and enhance our products and services. We’re looking for a Tech Lead who combines strong technical execution with the ability to mentor, coordinate, and align engineers around shared goals. This is a technical leadership role without direct management responsibilities. You will help organize work, drive technical decisions, and foster collaboration, while remaining deeply hands-on in design and implementation. A strong track record in understanding business needs, communicating effectively, and delivering impactful results is essential, along with leadership qualities to guide and inspire colleagues.

As a Tech Lead, you will lead large-scale technical efforts across multiple platforms that address our long-term business strategies. You'll be expected to propose novel solutions to real-world business challenges, work cross-functionally with engineering and non-engineering peers, and drive novel solutions that enhance our user experiences and business workflows. The ideal candidate will also have a track record of being an effective thought leader, and improving engineering best-practices across the organization.

 Job Responsibilities

  • Guide the technical direction and architecture for key systems and services, balancing long-term scalability with near-term delivery needs.
  • Collaborate with engineers and product partners to translate requirements into clear technical plans and milestones.
  • Help organize and facilitate engineering work, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and technical design discussions.
  • Encourage balanced workload distribution across engineers and help identify risks to delivery early.
  • Lead technical reviews and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback to elevate team quality.
  • Surface and coordinate resolution of technical risks, blockers, and cross-team dependencies.
  • Act as a primary technical point of contact for cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Remain hands-on, contributing to the design and development of critical systems.

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in a technical leadership capacity
  • Experience leading a group of engineers and driving technical delivery.
  • Proven success facilitating sprint planning, technical discussions, backlog management, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Skilled at mentoring peers through code reviews, architectural feedback, and fostering a culture of technical excellence and shared ownership.
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including:
  • Building large-scale backend services and APIs (e.g., REST, RPC, GraphQL).
  • Developing front-end applications using modern frameworks (React strongly preferred; Vue or Angular acceptable).
  • Designing and modeling data across relational, NoSQL, and other storage systems.
  • Proficiency in at least 3 programming languages, with Python highly desired (others such as C#, Java, or JavaScript/TypeScript are acceptable), and an ability to quickly learn new technologies as needed.
  • Strong experience designing, deploying, and scaling distributed cloud-based systems using Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or OCI), utilizing Infrastructure as Code.
  • Bonus points for:
    • Prior healthcare / health tech experience, or experience in other regulated industries, particularly with data privacy and compliance requirements.
    • Experience scaling platforms and teams in high-growth environments.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.

Work Environment

  • Work is primarily performed in a remote office setting.

SEQUENCING HAS THE POWER TO SOLVE DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGES.

From sequencing to reporting and beyond, our technical and clinical experts are providing guidance every step of the way:

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

  • High-quality testing: Our laboratory is CLIA certified and CAP accredited and most of our tests are also New York State approved.
  • Advanced detection: By interrogating genes for complex variants, we can identify the underlying causes of conditions that may otherwise be missed.

CLINICAL EXPERTISE

  • Thorough analysis: We classify variants according to our custom adaptation of the most recent guidelines. We then leverage our rich internal database for additional interpretation evidence.
  • Customized care: Our experts review all test results and write reports in a clear, concise, and personalized way. We also include information for research studies in specific clinical situations.
  • Impactful discovery: Our researchers continue working to find answers even after testing is complete. Through both internal research efforts and global collaborations, we have identified and published hundreds of new disease-gene relationships and developed novel tools for genomic data analysis. These efforts ultimately deliver more diagnostic findings to individuals.
