Job description

Reuters is looking for a driven and enterprising Energy Correspondent who can break news and produce agenda-setting news coverage from Australia, home to some of the region’s biggest oil and gas corporations as well as key gas export projects operated by global majors.

From breaking news in Australia’s liquefied natural gas industry, to trends moving global energy markets, M&A and other corporate news, there is wide scope for outstanding coverage by an ambitious correspondent. This role offers opportunities to contribute to both Reuters regional, Asian and global energy coverage.

The successful candidate will produce a full range of Reuters stories – building a substantial spot news file and writing smart market reports as well as delivering high-value exclusives and insightful and enterprising coverage for Reuters global audience. They may be asked to take on news monitoring shifts occasionally, and help the Reuters teams in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra with daily spot news coverage. They must be a team player who can work collaboratively with journalists around Asia and globally to deliver best-in-class coverage for Reuters clients.

This role will be based in Perth, Australia.

About the Role

As a Reuters Energy Correspondent, Australia you will:

  • Report on energy markets and spot news about the top energy companies in Australia.

  • Break exclusives and write insightful news on the sector.

  • Generate multiple ideas for initiative stories from Exclusives and Special Reports to Analyses and Insights.

  • Work with other reporters/editors in bureaus and globally on major stories.

  • Be fast and first with key major news that Reuters clients need to trade and make other business decisions.

  • Strong news judgment and story conceptualization skills.

  • Excellent writing capabilities.

  • Strong team skills and a collaborative approach to coverage.

  • Knowledge of AI tools and multimedia skills preferred.
