About the Position

Energy Exemplar is seeking a highly skilled and commercially driven Senior Analyst – Solutions Risk and Value Engineer with deep expertise in ISO markets, energy trading and risk management (ETRM) systems, and renewable energy integration. This role bridges the technical and strategic, helping our clients unlock business value through optimized trading strategies, streamlined operations, and enhanced risk management.

As Solutions Risk & Value Engineer, you will serve as a strategic partner to our clients and internal teams—translating complex market insights into high-impact solution designs, quantifying risk exposures, and driving bottom-line value across our PLEXOS, Aurora, Adapt2 and Energy Exemplar’s Insights and Playbook product suite. Your work will power commercial growth by ensuring every proposal, project, and implementation maximizes ROI and mitigates downside.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to utilities, IPPs, trading firms, and energy market participants, identifying and quantifying portfolio risk exposures (market, credit and operational).
  • Lead strategic value engineering workshops to uncover cost-saving and revenue-enhancing levers across energy assets, quantifying benefits and ROI from Energy Exemplar’s solutions (e.g., PLEXOS, Aurora, Adapt2 B2B, T2T, Green) in relation to market participation, operational efficiency, and revenue optimization.
  • Apply Monte Carlo simulations, scenario analysis, and stress tests to estimate Value at Risk (VaR) and upside potential.
  • Support the pre-sales process with technical scoping, solution mapping, and stakeholder engagement that align client needs with product capabilities.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on ISO/RTO trading and settlements, including CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, and ISONE.
  • Guide the implementation and use of Adapt2 products:
  • Adapt2 ISO B2B: ISO market entry strategy, bid/offer optimization, and asset scheduling.
  • Adapt2 T2T: Trade capture, tagging, settlements, and compliance workflows.
  • Adapt2 Green: REC tracking, renewable integration, PPA management, and carbon reporting.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to shape product roadmap based on evolving market needs and client feedback.
  • Deliver quantitative insights via customized reports, dashboards, and analytics that support client trading, risk, and portfolio strategies.
  • Monitor regulatory shifts, commodity trends, and emerging technologies; translate insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Produce whitepapers or client briefs on evolving risk factors and value-engineering best practices.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in energy trading, ISO market operations, or ETRM roles within energy, utilities, trading, or consulting.
  • Proven track record quantifying value creation and risk mitigation for large-scale energy portfolios.
  • Deep understanding of ISO/RTO market structures, PPA contracts, REC/Carbon markets, and settlements processes.
  • Strong familiarity with energy-market software (Adapt2, PCI, Hartigen, PLEXOS, Aurora or similar).
  • Strong commercial judgment: pricing strategy, contract structuring, and negotiation. Advanced financial modeling in Excel (VBA) and proficiency with Python, R, or MATLAB for stochastic analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent communicator, able to distil quantitative analyses into concise executive-level presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and guide cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Experience with power market forecasting, bid strategy development, and trading analytics.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Energy Management, or related quantitative discipline.
