Principal Product Designer 

Reporting to: Chief Product Officer

Start Date: June 1 or later

Location: Remote with some travel if needed  

 

Founded in 2015, Mursion builds virtual reality environments where professionals practice and master the complex interpersonal skills necessary to be effective in high-stakes professions. We deliver virtual reality simulations that recreate the most demanding interpersonal exchanges professionals confront daily on the job. We are looking for talented people with diverse backgrounds and experiences, who are inspired by the mission to leverage virtual reality technology to reinvent professional learning, and who are motivated to help clients become the premier global platform for virtual simulation training for behavioral skills. We’re looking for someone who is technologically savvy, a strong collaborator, skilled in communication, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.

 

Position Overview

Engaging user experience and thoughtfully designed end to end experiences are at the heart of Mursion’s mission. As a growing business we are seeking a Principal Product Designer to drive, collaborate and invent with product managers, engineers (AI, backend, and frontend), customers, marketers, learning specialists, and more. Collaborating directly with the Chief Product Officer on product direction, this designer will draft design documents, use AI to rapidly create prototypes, facilitate internal collaborative design workshops, drive usability testing, and more as we dive into customer needs. The ideal candidate can apply UX design principles in their sleep, leaving time for market-leading innovation and experiences, including web and mobile tooling experiences, and AI-driven experiences. The ideal candidate can bring both art and science to Mursion’s product. 

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with executives, developers, customer-facing peers, and more to drive meaningful design decisions.
  • Create user personas and drive evolution of them through research. 
  • Create design documents expressing overall direction of major areas of the product.
  • Create detailed level prototypes and specifications to coordinate with user stories and product direction over time.
  • Conduct usability testing gather user feedback and iterate on designs 
  • Support and iterate with engineers and others during implementation
  • Contribute to documentation and or other assets to help others understand the product
  • Contribute to KPI definition and tracking
  • Mentor and guide others as needed throughout the organization in user-first mindset
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in UX, preferably with heavy emphasis on data, and ideally in AI-based products and/or gaming/simulation experiences. 
  • 3+ years in B2B design
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Engineering, Computer science or related field preferred
  • Strong understanding of UX design principles 
  • Experience with usability testing and user research
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as drive the collaborative nature of design
  • Problem-solving aptitude and creative thinking skills
  • Driven by curiosity
  • Aptitude for applying creativity in a methodical way to achieving a product vision.
