The Credit Underwriter & Loan Processing Associate plays a dual role within the organization, focusing on both underwriting loan applications and providing vital support to brokers during the loan application process. This role involves assessing the creditworthiness of borrowers, making credit recommendations, and processing loan applications in collaboration with brokers. The position ensures smooth and efficient service for brokers and their clients while maintaining compliance with Australian lending regulations and internal policies.
1. Loan Application Review & Assessment:
Evaluate home loan applications submitted by brokers and directly from customers.
Assess financial documents, credit reports, and other documents to determine the borrower’s creditworthiness and ability to repay their loan.
Identify potential risks and ensure all loans comply with internal credit policies and regulatory guidelines.
2. Credit Recommendations:
Make recommendations on loan approvals, conditions, or declines based on risk assessments.
Work within delegated authority limits and escalate complex or high-risk applications to senior management when necessary.
Document credit decisions thoroughly, ensuring transparency and compliance with Australian regulations.
3. Broker Support & Loan Processing:
Review and validate loan applications submitted by brokers and customers, ensuring all required documents are complete and accurate.
Ensure loan applications are processed within agreed timelines, delivering high-quality service to both brokers and their clients.
4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
Collaborate with the credit team, broker support, and other internal team members to resolve any issues during the loan application process.
Communicate clearly with customers and brokers on additional information requests—initially over email and ultimately over the phone as well.
5. Technology & Financial Comprehension:
Use internal and external credit scoring systems, financial analysis tools, and loan processing software to enhance efficiency in both underwriting and loan application processing.
Support the adoption of new technologies that streamline broker submissions and improve borrower experience.
Requirements
Requirements/ Skills Needed:
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in credit underwriting and/or loan processing in the Australian home loan market.
Prior experience working in a broker support role is highly desirable.
Familiarity with broker-channel lending, including documentation and compliance requirements.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and relationship management skills, particularly when working with brokers and customers.
Strong English proficiency is a must, and confidence communicating in both written and verbal
formats with customers and key stakeholders is required.
Proficiency in loan processing and underwriting software, with prior experience in Infynity, LoanApp,
and ApplyOnline preferred.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple applications simultaneously.
Ability to work directly with the Australian team and a very fast-paced environment.
