We are seeking an experienced Data leader with a demonstrated track record of mentorship, critical thinking, and technical excellence with data technologies.  The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of modern data architectures, databases, ETL, and AWS solutions. 

You will work and guide our technology teams (including those outside of your department) towards “freeing our data”, maintaining and building scalable, resilient, secure, and well architected technology solutions that achieve our business goals. You will partner with business stakeholders and work alongside teams to deliver on these opportunities.

  • Dive deep into data technology via end-to-end hands-on contributions to data projects, including ETL, reporting, analysis and development

  • Develop and maintain data warehouse, application data models, information architecture on our data lakes, and relational and non-relational databases.

  • Perform technical analysis and hands-on support of ad hoc requests for information from business stakeholders and other data related help as needed

  • Write automated unit, integration, regression, performance and acceptance tests and monitor performance in production, tuning as needed

  • Build real and effective partnerships between your teams and others throughout the company

  • Effectively participate in multiple projects and work across a broad range of technologies and products

About Your Contributions:

  • You have 8+ years of data system design and hands-on development experience in data-related positions including deep understanding in data warehouses, data lakes, data modeling, ETL/ELT, query and data optimization, relational and non-relational databases, knowledge of database architectures, indexing, performance tuning, and data engineering design patterns inclusive of structured and unstructured data, across many frameworks and languages

  • You have expertise in database performance monitoring and optimization, understanding of execution plans, caching mechanisms, and partitioning. You have experience and familiarity in creating and managing database backup strategies, disaster recovery planning, high availability solutions, along with replication, clustering, and load-balancing techniques.

  • You have seen many projects through from end-to-end and had a major role in its creation, development, and maintenance, working with high performing engineering teams, including both onshore and offshore resources.

  • You listen, communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, and provide solutions with actionable plans, being able to mentor others from many levels

  • You care deeply about customer privacy, data, design, and quality

  • You have strong analytical skills, problem solving, and a results-driven mindset

  • You have a good understanding of Data Engineering domain and future roadmap, including knowledge of industry regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, or PCI-DSS

  • You know many of these technologies and are eager to learn the rest quickly – AI, data warehouse design, ETL technologies, Python, BI technologies (such as Amazon QuickSights - big plus -  and Looker), related AWS data technologies (such as Athena, Glue, Airflow, DMS), Redshift, DynamoDB, Amazon RDS - Oracle, Amazon Aurora Postgresql, PL/SQL & SQL mastery, database monitoring tools (such as Nagios, SolarWinds, custom scripts), Java (bonus), Amazon OpenSearch (bonus), CI/CD pipelines and Terraform (bonus), Big Data technologies such as Hadoop/EMR and Spark (bonus)

  • You have experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum)

  • You are highly effective at creating collaborative relationships across an entire organization

  • You have and are high energy, accountable, data-driven, and action-oriented with a history of getting things done in complex environments

  • You are results oriented, tenacious, but with the ability to know when to push harder and when to look for alternative approaches with an ROI mindset, both accepting of other people’s ideas and confident in your own

Pay Range

Salary: Remote: $165,000.00 - $200,000.00

The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Dotdash Meredith’s total compensation package for employees.
