Job description

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with 283 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

About the Team

Platform Engineering is focused on providing technical products, tools, and services that enable Netflix to scale and innovate. We want to empower Netflix engineers to focus on building innovative experiences for our members and creators around the world. We deploy hundreds of services on thousands of instances across multiple regions and millions of client devices. Platform Engineering Teams focus on increasing agility, efficiency, and reliability across our compute, networking, productivity, and data products.

Within Platform Engineering, the Data Platform organization helps Netflix maximize the value of data by enabling teams to easily store, discover, govern, and utilize data. The team provides data-related infrastructure for software engineering (e.g., data stores), data engineering (e.g., batch and stream processing), and analytics (e.g., Tableau).  Ensure that we appropriately account for broad concerns such as cost, privacy, and security.

Data Discovery and Governance is a strategic bet at Netflix that underpins our ability to leverage data as a valuable and strategic asset. This team owns the foundational building blocks necessary for ensuring our data is used effectively, efficiently, securely, and in compliance with regulations. Overall, it has a broad business impact across different business domains (Ads/Games/Live/Streaming) and business functions.

About the Role

This role will create vision, strategy, and action plans to deliver on Netflix’s data discovery and governance strategy, aligning teams around a unified approach to data catalog, lineage, metadata, and search for Platform Engineering. These are highly visible and cross-functional efforts that require building and driving technical thought leadership across all engineering organizations at Netflix.

A successful candidate will have experience in cloud-native infrastructure, with a specific focus on the Data Platform domain. They will have experience leading complex cross-team and cross-organization programs and bringing them to a successful conclusion. They will have demonstrated experience building and fostering relationships across many stakeholders. They will thrive stepping into an ambiguous situation and bringing order and alignment.

What You Will Do

  • Own and drive multiple cross-functional programs, in collaboration with technical teams (including product, engineering, UI/UX, Data science, etc), that focus on building a scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure foundation

  • Translate strategic goals into executable roadmaps and drive execution by aligning engineers, PMs, and data practitioners across multiple organizations and domains.

  • Leverage deep technical domain expertise to drive technical strategy, planning, and execution with engineering partners

  • Craft and drive engagement with partners, work to decompose requirements into technical execution plans with multiple engineering teams, track progress towards goals, and report status to product, customers, and technical leadership.

  • Champion breaking out OKRs into measurable milestones while proactively managing risks, blockers, and delays.

  • Manage cross-functional dependencies, risks, and changes effectively by optimizing scope, schedule, and resources accordingly.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience delivering technical programs involving data platforms, metadata systems, or distributed infrastructure

  • Experience managing programs across cross-functional teams, building sustainable processes, and coordinating release schedules

  • Self-starter who enjoys tackling 0 to 1 problem spaces and quickly bringing organization and direction

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear articulation of business impact and technical constraints tailored to the audience

  • Hands-on approach. Not afraid to pull data, dive into logs, or whiteboard solution paths.

Additive Qualifications

  • Previous work in Data Catalogs, Search Indexing, or Data Lineage systems.

  • Familiarity with data privacy frameworks, compliance concerns, and how governance intersects with data platforms.

  • Experience operating in federated data environments with high autonomy and decentralized teams.

More About the Ideal Candidate. You...

  • Thrive in ambiguity and bring structure to complex, interconnected technical domains.

  • Are passionate about the customer experience of data tools, from discoverability to governance.

  • Understand and can contribute to build vs. buy decisions for foundational services like catalogs, search, and lineage tracking.

  • Have a deep understanding of metadata platforms, data observability, and distributed data systems.

  • Build trust with engineers, credibility with product, and alignment with leadership through clear communication and dependable delivery.

If you’re looking for a technical and highly dynamic opportunity that will have an outsized impact on Netflix's future of software engineering, we’d love to talk to you.
