Pintail Solutions is seeking a market-savvy innovation and strategy consultant specializing in evaluating early-stage technologies and academic proposals for commercial potential and readiness within the animal health industry. With deep experience across scientific review, market landscape analysis, and opportunity vetting, the ideal candidate will bridge the gap between academic research and real-world industry needs. This role will support strategic investment decisions by evaluating animal health science and technology across companion and production animal solutions, diagnostics, and digital health. Trusted by corporate innovation teams, the ideal candidate will bring a blend of scientific fluency, business acumen, and market understanding to unlock high-value opportunities and accelerate next-generation animal health innovation.

Roles and Responsibilities
Opportunity Scouting & Evaluation
  • Review and analyze emerging science and technology from academic institutions and research centers for market potential and commercial readiness
  • Assess the scientific credibility, technical feasibility, and strategic relevance of new science, technology or innovation
  • Identify potential applications in companion animal and livestock sectors, including diagnostics, therapeutics, and digital health tools
  • Conduct due diligence on innovation maturity, IP position, team credentials, and technology readiness levels for short-term (<2yrs) market impact

Market Assessment & Strategic Fit
  • Perform market landscape analyses: competitors, unmet needs, industry trends, and market sizing
  • Evaluate commercial viability and alignment with internal business goals and R&D pipelines
  • Develop high-level go-to-market considerations, including target customers and distribution dynamics
  • Recommend relative prioritization based on potential ROI, strategic differentiation, and market timing

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Engage internal stakeholders from R&D, business development, commercial, regulatory and investment teams
  • Facilitate alignment of evaluation criteria and strategic fit across business functions
  • Consult with internal/external subject matter experts to validate technical and market assumptions if needed

Reporting & Communication
  • Prepare concise, decision-ready assessments and recommendation briefs for senior leadership
  • Maintain a pipeline tracker for all evaluated academic proposals and their outcomes
  • Present findings in meetings or working sessions with innovation or partnership leads
  • Deliver feedback and insights to academic or institutional partners, as appropriate

Strategic Intelligence & Insights
  • Monitor emerging innovation trends and early-stage technologies across animal health and adjacent sectors
  • Track relevant regulatory changes, public-private funding programs, and startup activity in the space
  • Contribute to building internal innovation evaluation frameworks, templates, and scorecards

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or healthcare related field.
  • Masters degree or PhD in life science field or MBA preferred
  • >5 yrs experience in market analysis, business development, R&D strategy, or innovation consulting within animal health
  • Ability to travel if needed to review potential opportunities
  • Adept communication for executive leadership
  • Self-driven individual able to operate with autonomy
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate early-stage research proposals, especially from academic institutions
  • Strong understanding of technology commercialization, IP landscape, and go-to-market considerations
  • Familiarity with clinical research, product development, or regulatory pathways
  • Exposure to corporate-academic partnerships, tech transfer, or licensing processes
  • Ability to interpret scientific and technical information and translate it into business-relevant insights
