Senior Linux Systems Engineer

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Linux Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the operational workload within our Site Reliability Engineering zone.  We manage over 8,000 systems so utilizing automation and configuration management tools are vital to our team’s success. This position will work with a variety of infrastructure and development teams to build out systems and services and ensure the stability and resiliency of those services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, configure and maintain Linux application servers
  • Collaborate with development and other infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration of services and infrastructure.
  • Resolve various Linux system and application issues through on call escalations or tickets.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
  • Work on technical projects, managing timelines and ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Manage operational ticket queue in support of various stakeholders across R&D, Infrastructure Engineering and Project Management.
  • Participate in a 12x7 on-call rotation with peers. We have a peer team in India that manages the overnight on-call.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Eligible to work in the US now or in the future without visa sponsorship
  • 5+ years of experience in Linux Systems Administration/Engineering, SRE, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience with Linux operating systems and administration.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure services like DNS, LDAP, DHCP
  • Experience with network troubleshooting tools like ping, traceroute, dig and other linux system commands
  • Strong scripting/programming skills in languages such as Bash, Python or Perl.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a focus on teamwork.
  • Well organized, attentive to details, and able to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Experience with monitoring and metrics tools such as Prometheus, Nagios, Grafana and writing custom system checks.
  • Configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef or Ansible.
  • Experience using version control tools such as Git.
  • Strong system and network security knowledge and experience.
  • Advanced Linux system and hardware troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of AWS services and architecture.
  • Knowledge of logging tools (e.g., ELK stack).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
  • Experience with container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or Docker.
  • Knowledge of database systems such as MySQL, Oracle or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with managing and troubleshooting Storage on Linux systems through SAN or NAS.
  • Certifications in RedHat, AWS or relevant technologies are a plus.
