Summary of Position
Under the direction of the Sr. Medical Directors, the Medical Director, Clinical Quality will develop robust improvement interventions for primary care quality measures, written clinical guidance for managing an expanded set of virtual care conditions, and serve as the key clinical quality and safety stakeholder for implementation of a new EMR. Your work plays a critical role ensuring the clinical quality and patient safety of virtual care delivery at Teladoc Health. You will be responsible for executing physician-led quality improvement interventions for virtual primary care and chronic condition management. The Medical Director must be service-oriented and well-versed in industry-standard primary care quality measures and formal quality improvement methods. The successful candidate will critically review the available literature to design novel clinical guidance and pathways for safe and effective primary/urgent virtual care delivery. This role requires exceptional oral and written communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities to meet clinical quality and business objectives.
Essential Duties:
Execute specific physician-led quality improvement interventions/PDSA cycles for our virtual primary care and chronic condition management (primarily diabetes and hypertension) quality measures, particularly those aligned with NCQA HEDIS. Sample activities may include but are not limited to:
Developing and presenting provider and care team clinical training materials that support quality improvement interventions to individuals and large groups.
Recommending workflow efficiencies to providers and their staff to improve quality measure performance
Develop robust clinical guidance in the form of guidelines, policies, and pathways for managing an expanded set of virtual care conditions. This will require the ability to quickly and comprehensively review the available medical literature and collaborate closely with other virtual care leaders and experts to create novel clinical guidance for providers and care teams specific to virtual care delivery.
Serve as key clinical quality and safety physician subject matter expert and liaison for implementation of a new ambulatory-focused EMR in a highly unique and sophisticated virtual care delivery environment.
Work closely with clinical informatics to build out EMR-based clinical decision support to deliver top-tier quality measure performance and ensure safe delivery of expanded virtual care clinical conditions.
Lead specific projects and activities with direct support from Senior Clinical Quality Medical Directors in virtual urgent and primary care.
Required Qualifications:
MD/DO required with active Board certification in internal or family medicine.
Minimum of 5 years of recent direct patient care experience (post-residency) in an outpatient, ambulatory setting including virtual care (this is required).
Experience in comprehensively reviewing medical literature and creating novel clinical care guidance in a large health care delivery setting
Exemplary technical writing and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Understanding of quality improvement activities including leveraging quality data analytics and measurement (e.g., run charts, statistical process control) in a large health care delivery setting.
3+ years’ experience leveraging modern EHRs in ambulatory settings to drive quality and safety.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in telehealth/virtual care quality and safety in a corporate or health tech start-up environment.
Clinical informatics expertise applied to cloud-based, ambulatory-focused EMRs.
Front-line physician leadership experience in ambulatory care EMR transitions.
Ability to work cross-functionally with diverse clinical and non-clinical stakeholders including physicians, nurses, administrative staff, clinical informatics, data scientists, as well as Product, Commercial, and other business leaders.
Comfortable manipulating, analyzing, and synthesizing data as well as reporting out results through clear and compelling visual presentations (Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint)
Able to work independently in a largely remote work role and prioritize deadlines, particularly in a dynamic and rapidly evolving large corporate virtual care delivery setting.
Track and communicate progress; quickly escalate barriers to deliverables and performance
This is a remote position within the U.S., with only limited travel anticipated.
The base salary range for this position is $200,000 - 220,000. In addition to a base salary, this position is eligible for a performance bonus, equity, and benefits (subject to eligibility requirements) listed here: Teladoc Health Benefits 2025. Total compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to, type of position, location, education level, work experience, and certifications.
