Senior Accountant

FLSA Status: Salary Exempt

Location:   Remote

 

Reports to: Director – Assistant Controller

SUMMARY

This Senior Accountant role will be responsible for core accounting activities to ensure accurate and timely closing processes for a rapidly growing business.  These activities include ensuring a smooth, seamless transition for all accounting and finance related processes as we build and acquire new hospitals.  This role will oversee the staff accountants, as well as work closely with controllership, veterinary hospital staff, and the CVP finance team, consisting of members from the FP&A, Treasury, and Accounts Payable. This role will also manage recurring weekly, monthly, and quarterly general accounting processes including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and supporting special projects to continually improve our processes.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the overall success of the organization by maintaining their assigned areas of the general ledger in line with generally accepted accounting principles and Company policies
  • Take responsibility for accounting in assigned Centers Of Excellence in conformance with Company policies.
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes.
  • Prepare schedules requested by colleagues and external partners as needed.
  • Review new leases and prepare deferred rent schedules in accordance with ASC 842
  • Contribute to the timely completion of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for the accounting team
  • General accounting processes: journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and supporting special projects
  • Support cross-functional teams by answering accounting and financial questions and providing analyses by researching and interpreting data.
  • Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Other duties as requested by management.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee staff accountants (2)

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE


  • 4 year college degree in accounting
  • 5 years of experience in accounting-related role with knowledge of US GAAP 
  • Strong project management skills, including ability to juggle multiple tasks concurrently
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, adapt to changes, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Veterinary healthcare industry experience a plus

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • CPA certification a plus but not required

  • Excellent time management skills in a remote environment
  • Self-starter who needs little direction; is highly self-motivated, and accountable
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skill (both oral and written) including the ability to communicate with individuals having both sophisticated and unsophisticated financial acumen as well as with senior leadership.  
  • Strong team player, able to share information and coordinate processes with other departments 
  • Appreciation for working with confidential information and exercising discretion when dealing with business development opportunities and potential partners

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Strong Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
  • Experience with Netsuite or other major ERP
  • NetGain or Rent Accounting Software experience a plus

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Once a quarter in person team meetings in Philadelphia Support Center
