Job description

Position location: Remote Nationwide

Position Purpose: Oversee the actuarial function by providing vision, strategy, and leadership to ensure efficient and effective operations of rate development, business development, and financial outcomes.

  • Develop and ensure application of actuarial policies, processes and methodologies.
  • Identify and assess the influence of all aspects of health insurance products upon the risk assumed and expected profitability and marketability.
  • Establish department strategy to demonstrate and implement the product/segment behaviors, and the impact of pricing or product design decisions.
  • Accountable for the development of the organization's rate structure, maintenance of adequate reserves, and development of new products.
  • Counsels senior management team regarding actuarial techniques to determine competitive strategy.
  • Oversees preparation and interpretation of data for rate and formula filings for state insurance departments.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Actuarial Science or related field. Master’s degree preferred. 10+ years of actuarial experience. Knowledge of Health Care Reform (ACA) regulations and implications on actuarial services and risk management. Previous management experience including responsibilities for hiring, training, assigning work and managing performance of staff.

License/Certification: Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (ASA or FSA).
