Job description

As a Sr Product Engineer embedded within our Performance Marketing team, you will bridge the gap between product management and software engineering, driving the development of scalable marketing solutions that power Apartment List’s growth strategy. This blended role requires both strategic product thinking and strong technical expertise to manage essential platforms enabling our digital marketing channels, generating substantial revenue growth through technology innovation. While reporting into the VP of Engineering, working directly with the marketing team and maintaining a product development focus, you'll influence how potential renters discover and interact with Apartment List's offerings across the digital landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop & implement technical solutions to enhance performance marketing efforts, such as intelligent re-engagement systems, predictive audience segmentation, and privacy-conscious tracking mechanisms.
  • Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs in Go, Ruby, and frontend applications in TypeScript, React to support marketing platforms.
  • Lead product and engineering initiatives by collaborating with marketing, analytics, and data science teams to implement machine learning models that optimize bidding strategies, audience segmentation, and user engagement.
  • Establish experimentation frameworks to rapidly test and iterate on conversion optimizations and automated campaign management.
  • Coordinate with engineering and product leadership to prioritize projects that align with business objectives while ensuring scalability and performance.
  • Develop automation systems to streamline marketing operations, reduce manual effort, and accelerate decision-making.
  • Ensure marketing technology platforms such as Google Tag Manager, Appsflyer, and GA4 integrate seamlessly with internal systems.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in a hybrid product-engineering role, software engineering, or a technical product management capacity.
  • Strong software development skills in Go, Ruby, TypeScript, and React
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, relational database design, and scalable backend services.
  • Deep understanding of digital advertising technologies, attribution models, and performance marketing platforms.
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts and their application in marketing automation and predictive modeling.
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience with SQL and marketing performance metrics.
  • Experience with server-side tracking implementations, tag management systems, customer data platforms, and conversion APIs (like Meta CAPI)
  • Ability to translate marketing goals into technical implementation, through planning, requirements gathering, coding and maintenance, ensuring seamless execution of growth initiatives.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects, managing stakeholders, and driving technical decisions.

Here's The Pay Range

At Apartment List, we carefully consider a variety of factors to determine compensation for each position, including the role, level, and work. The US base salary range for this position is:

  • Zone 1: $148,000 - $180,000 TTC (including $133,000 - $162,000 base salary) + equity
  • Zone 2: $137,000 - $166,000 TTC (including $123,000 - $150,000 base salary) + equity
  • Zone 3: $126,000 - $153,000 TTC (including $113,000 - $138,000 base salary) + equity

This reflects the compensation target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Please note, the compensation details provided do not include benefits and perks that we offer.

We also rely on market indicators along with considering your work location, job related skills, experience and relevant education and training, to determine compensation that is fair and competitive for you. Apartment List will consider paying compensation near the higher of the range in exceptional circumstances, where candidates have the experience, credentials or expertise that would warrant such consideration.
