Job description

Volunteer: Newsletter Writer / Content Developer - This is a remote role (within the US)

Join the WeVote Movement

WeVote has an open volunteering position for a Newsletter Writer / Content Developer (2-3+ hours per week) who wants to use their existing skills and learn new skills, while helping strengthen American Democracy.

The newsletter writer will be tasked with writing engaging and informative content that shares news, information, goals, and wins for our all-volunteer voter activation nonprofit. We are looking for a writer to join the team who will help draft content that aligns with our mission and values. You will assist with content planning and may also be asked to help with research, interviewing, and writing including write stories, volunteer profiles, event info, and related news, all designed to build awareness and do a bit of cheerleading. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and editing skills and experience working with volunteers and/or in a nonprofit setting.

About Us

WeVote is a nonpartisan get-out-the-vote nonprofit startup, and a celebrated Fast Forward nonprofit technology grantee. WeVote is a movement of over 120 passionate volunteers (starting with the founders) who are building open-source mobile technologies that touch and mobilize millions of voters on Election Day. We observe that many voters are busy, distracted, and impatient. We have a goal of providing a complete voting experience in 8 minutes, including the download of our app ("WeVote Ballot Guide, @WeVote"). More information is at https://WeVote.US. See Twitter @WeVote. We are a 100% volunteer and remote organization.

What You'll Do

  • Be part of strategic conversations with the content team about content needs and messaging strategy
  • Develop engaging copy that inspires voters to get ready to vote, and encourage their friends and family to vote

Who you are: Must haves

  • You want to work with an established and successful team. You are committed to strengthening American Democracy.
  • You are striving for personal excellence, and want to do meaningful work that will make a difference.
  • Able to devote 2-3+ hours per week, with at least 1-2 hours available during business hours
  • A willingness to work with and support other volunteers
  • You are currently located in the United States

What You’ll Gain

You will have the opportunity to touch the lives of millions of Americans, and be part of a movement and product that will receive national attention. You’ll gain an opportunity to grow within the WeVote movement and meet other volunteers who are like-minded and interested in building a valuable application to empower voters across the United States. You’ll also gain valuable technical skills, have opportunities for leadership development, and expand your personal and professional network.
