At Fortis Games we aspire to make great games that bring people together while redefining how game companies work. We believe in building a sense of belonging through our games, their communities, and how we operate and treat each other. Through our game communities, we will create powerful connections and lasting memories. We will foster a culture of diversity, equity and belonging where together our diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds impact the games we make.

We are an early but mighty organization with a leadership team of game industry veterans. There are many opportunities for you to have a big impact on the products we'll be making as well as the overall direction of the company. If you're passionate about tackling difficult problems with direct and thoughtful communication and team first mentality, we may be the right place for you.

About the role

Fortis’s Director of Business Development will be responsible for identifying expansion opportunities and executing publishing agreements, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions that accelerate the growth of the company. We are looking for a collaborative team player with strong product instincts, excellent speaking and writing abilities, and deep relationships within the video game developer community. The right person will have direct experience and exceptional skill at interacting and winning favor with talented game industry leaders. The candidate must have thorough knowledge and genuine interest in mobile, PC, and console gaming, coupled with a strong work ethic. He or she will interact with entrepreneurs, game developers, venture capitalists, investment bankers, and cross-functional groups from opportunity origination through deal closing. He or she will be instrumental in driving and influencing investment decisions that propel Fortis to new heights as a dominant force in the video game industry.

What you'll achieve
  • Identify new business opportunities to grow Fortis; conduct research on game developer targets using available market data sources; meet with target developers virtually, onsite and at game industry events.
  • Work with Fortis’s internal teams to understand business objectives and growth strategy.
  • Source and manage pipeline of external targets; filter prospects according to Fortis selection criteria; prioritize and manage the funnel of incoming opportunities.
  • Drive weekly pipeline meetings and rally support for key targets.
  • Track – develop and maintain records of contact with target game developers; formalize information retention and process for documenting developer interactions through relationship database and regular, transparent updates to Fortis management.
  • Help structure transactions and lead negotiations with counterparties, representing Fortis’s best interests; facilitate due diligence by working cross-functionally with deal team and operational team leads.
  • Create summary presentations incorporating developer background, game data, quantitative and qualitative deal rationale, and other relevant information to obtain greenlight.
  • Manage the deal completion process by collaborating with all stakeholders, ensuring best practices, complying with Fortis policies and procedures, and obtaining required approvals.
  • Manage relationships and handover to integration teams, ensuring key terms, deal drivers, and deal sensitivities are understood by all.
What you'll need to be successful
  • Deep and far-reaching relationships in the game developer community within a minimum of 8 years industry experience, preferably in developer relations roles.
  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and a love for games – the right candidate plays a wide variety of games across different genres on multiple platforms.
  • Highly motivated, energetic, action-oriented self-starter that works well independently but seeks direction when appropriate.
  • Polished professional with impeccable written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate persuasively and command respect with C-level executives and all external business partners.
  • Collaborative team player, adept at building relationships across organizations and managing interdisciplinary teams on projects.
  • International work experience a strong plus; extensive international travel is required for this role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to think strategically and creatively with business savvy; knowledge of legal contracts, negotiating techniques, and the various video game business models.
