Description

Position Summary:

The General Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role involves managing general ledger activities, reconciling accounts, and assisting in budget preparation to support the company’s financial goals and decision-making processes.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General Accounting

  • Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions.
  • Record daily sales, purchases, and expenses.

Accounts Payable

  • Process payments for supplier and vendor invoices.

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Generate reports on sales, expenses, and profit margins.

Inventory Management

  • Track inventory levels and costs related to purchased goods.
  • Assist in reconciling inventory records.

Reconciliation

  • Reconcile bank statements and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Identify discrepancies and resolve issues as they arise.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets.
  • Monitor budget adherence and provide variance analysis.

Tax Preparation

  • Prepare and file sales tax returns and other required tax documents.
  • Assist in year-end tax return preparation.

Payroll Management

  • Process employee payroll and ensure compliance with labor laws.
  • Maintain records of hours worked and employee deductions.

Financial Analysis

  • Analyze financial data to identify trends and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Support decision-making processes with insights on financial performance.

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records for audit purposes.

Software Management

  • Use accounting software (SAGE) for efficient financial management.
  • Stay up to date on software features and improvements.

Administrative Support

  • Provide general administrative support as needed, including filing and documentation.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations or reports for management.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes within the accounting function.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and accounting standards.

 

Organizational Responsibilities:

Follows established policies and procedures by monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and operational processes related to area(s) of responsibility and reporting violations or infractions to appropriate individual(s).

Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Company, warehouse, and departmental policies, procedures, and standards by immediately reporting any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, employee/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to appropriate individual(s).

Identifies areas for improvement and offers suggestions to improve the site's efficiency, profitability, and productivity.

Keeps abreast of current changes in technology, logistics tools, processes, and standards within the industry and area(s) of responsibility by attending internal and external training programs and by accessing other sources of information and applies knowledge and practices to area(s) of responsibility.

Work Hours (may vary by state or location):

This role is set for full-time hours in a regular work week. Hours of operation vary by site and shift. Must be available to work on weekends when scheduled and must be able to perform the essential job functions unaccompanied.

Education/Experience:

  • Employment history that demonstrates the application and usage of data entry, booking and accounting knowledge and skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business or accounting is required.
  • one or more years of relevant experience in the field required.
  • Ability to use SAP

Language Ability:

Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate effectively to comprehend and complete documents, and answer questions in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence as needed.

Math Ability:

Demonstrated mathematical skills necessary to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, decimals, and fractions, and calculate percentages to complete reports, inventory, payroll, budgets, and other reporting information.

Reasoning Ability:

Demonstrated ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, warehouse management software (Word, Excel, Microsoft TEAMS, SAP, WMS, Bank Payment platforms/software) spreadsheet management programs to complete required reports and employment documents. Proficiency and fluency in using the internet and navigating the internet and websites.
