Positions in this sub-family are responsible for providing IT functional/technical/strategic consulting and assisting businesses and other organizations to operate their IT software/hardware systems more efficiently by identifying and measuring problems, and recommending, customizing and implementing solutions. Depending on the organization, consulting projects include conducting organizational studies and evaluations; designing IT systems and procedures, and conducting work and process studies. Activities include developing and managing client relationships and managing project timelines, budgets, fees and outcomes. A Senior Professional (P3) applies advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Responsibilities typically include: • Managing projects / processes, working independently with limited supervision. • Coaching and reviewing the work of lower level professionals. • Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.

The Role

The Epic Bridges Consultant is a key delivery leader in technical interoperability consulting solutions for the Transformation & Innovation Services EHR Innovation team.  The Consultant owns integration solution ideation and delivery working alongside an internal team as a project solution is developed and deployed. In addition, the Consultant enables and collaborates with the sales team to position Nordic’s offerings to our customer base. Successful candidates will possess the following attributes:

This position works under the direction of the Senior Director, Transformation & Innovation Services, EHR Innovation, to address documented client needs while actively seeking opportunities to refine client deliverables, build knowledge in new domains, and improve Nordic’s business processes. 

We are seeking an interoperability expert with strong, demonstratable experience in Epic Bridges, HL7, FHIR, and SMART on FHIR. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of hands-on experience in designing, developing, and maintaining healthcare data exchange solutions. As a Consultant, you will play a key role in advising clients on best practices, driving integration strategies, and ensuring seamless data interoperability across various healthcare systems.

Key Responsibilities

The Consultant will have the following key responsibilities, which include but are not limited to:

  • Acting as an overall solution and technical subject matter expert in a customer-facing role
  • Providing pre-sales solution generation that succinctly describes how a solution meets the client’s communicated needs and engenders client support for the proposed solution
  • Leading and managing interoperability projects, including the design and implementation of interfaces using Epic Bridges, HL7, FHIR, and SMART on FHIR.
  • Collaborating with internal leadership and EHR architects on solution design and delivery
  • Collaborating with healthcare providers, IT teams, and vendors to assess current systems and recommend solutions for efficient data exchange.
  • Developing, testing, and deploying interfaces to ensure seamless integration between EHR systems, third-party applications, and external data sources.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior consultants and team members.
  • Conducting detailed analysis of client needs and create integration roadmaps tailored to each organization’s infrastructure.
  • Ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, data standards, and security protocols, including HIPAA.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to data interoperability, system integration, and interface performance.
  • Staying current with the latest industry trends, standards, and technologies related to healthcare interoperability.
  • Continuously improving process and internal support documents, and assisting in the improvement of workflows and processes and managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Participating in continuous learning opportunities including obtaining new Epic certifications annually
  • Working to uphold and strengthen Nordic’s corporate culture and the EHR Innovation team culture

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Healthcare IT, or related field
  • Active Epic Bridges certification with 3+ years of experience with Epic Bridges
  • Broad Knowledge across HL7, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, or other interoperability frameworks
  • Extensive experience in designing, developing, and maintaining healthcare data interfaces.
  • Expertise in HL7 messaging standards, including Version 2.x, CDA, and IHE profiles.
  • Strong knowledge of FHIR APIs and their implementation in real-world healthcare environments.
  • Experience with SMART on FHIR applications and integrating third-party apps into EHR systems.
  • Familiarity with other healthcare interoperability protocols, such as X12, DICOM, and CDA
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously and manage client relationships effectively.

skills and Experience

  • 3+ years working in the healthcare industry
  • 3+ years in a technical customer-facing role supporting a software product
  • Professional experience working with Epic in a technical capacity
  • Certification in Epic Bridges or other Epic modules
  • Experience working in a consulting or advisory role
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies and their applications in healthcare (e.g., AWS, Azure)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and proven ability to communicate complex technical topics to a variety of business partners
  • Experience working and/or learning in a healthcare environment preferred
  • Experience with FHIR, HL7, and other healthcare interoperability frameworks preferred
  • Must demonstrate and embody Nordic’s maxims
