Subject Matter Expert/WAKE (Remote)

KBR, Inc., located in Cambridge, MA, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to support the wake turbulence work.  KBR Inc. supports the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Volpe Center in managing and collecting data for wake turbulence in a complex field network combination of wake sensors (Vortex SODARS, pulsed LIDARS), weather sensors (TEMP Profiler, SONIC anemometers), aircraft event sensors (laser rangefinders, pressure transducers), aircraft identification sensor (Mode S squitter receiver, ADS-B receivers) and communications networks. The work supports the FAA’s Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). Our work helps the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) improve safety, alleviate air traffic congestion, and mitigate environmental impacts. The selected candidate will join a dynamic multidisciplinary team operating in an agile and fast paced environment and utilizing state-of-the-art technologies.

The selected candidate could provide support in the following areas:

  • Support activities at Aviation Weather Research Facility (AWRF) on Joint Base Cape Cod (JBCC) (AWRF/JBCC)
  • Develop and conduct test plans for vendor equipment
  • Conduct tests and collect data for analysis
  • Evaluate the performance of sensors and related weather systems relative to new scientific discoveries, technologies and changing or emerging applications
  • Provide expertise in general and specialized analytical techniques to test and evaluate test data
  • Potentially travel to standards and/or government meetings

Required Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience
  • Experience with FAA initiatives related to wake turbulence
  • Experience with analyzing wake turbulence data
  • Experience working with vendors
  • Understanding of the various wake turbulence sensors
  • Experience with wake turbulence modeling and simulation

Desired Qualifications

  • Long association with FAA wake turbulence work
