Job description

What You'll Do

Avalara is looking for an experienced Director of Technology Partner Services to lead a team of Technical Program Managers. This team is responsible for onboarding and supporting technology partners as they integrate Avalara’s tax compliance solutions into their platforms.

In this leadership role, you will oversee the certification process for partner integrations, support team performance and development, and ensure that Avalara’s standards for partner engagement and technical proficiency are met. You will work with Product, Engineering, Sales, and Partner Success to improve the integration journey and scale our partner ecosystem.

You will report directly to the Vice President of Partner Services.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

  • Lead a high-performing team of Technical Program Managers.
  • Oversee the end-to-end partner design, build, and certification process, from onboarding through technical integration and activation.
  • Build and evolve the partner integration framework, ensuring scalability and efficiency in certification processes across multiple businesses.
  • Collaborate with strategic partner leaders and company partners to align technical integration priorities with Avalara’s growth and product strategies.
  • Ensure team members provide excellent partner-facing support for Avalara’s APIs, platform requirements, and integration best practices.
  • Guide process improvements across partner certification, enablement, and referral workflows.
  • Collaborate with partners to resolve integration challenges and ensure successful partner outcomes.
  • Monitor team performance, partner satisfaction, certification throughput, and influenced revenue Indicators.
  • Be an escalation point for complex partner integrations.
  • Advocate for partner needs internally by being a voice to Product, Engineering, and Support teams to influence roadmaps and support strategies.
  • Lead Partner Readiness activities with Product and Engineering to ensure new products, enhanced products, and APIs include all aspects of Partner Readiness are incorporated during the design phase.
  • Contribute to documentation and tooling strategies that accelerate partner time-to-value and standardize technical engagements.
  • Oversee team development, ensuring product knowledge and technical expertise remain current.
  • Identify resource and training needs to grow and mature the partner integration program.

What You’ll Need To Be Successful

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in program or partner management within a SaaS or technology environment.
  • 2+ years of experience directly managing a team in a customer- or partner-facing role.
  • Experience with APIs, integration processes, and business applications (ERP, eCommerce, OMS, CRM).
  • Experience with software certification, technical enablement, or partner onboarding programs.
  • Expertise in meeting performance goals and driving process improvements.
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira and documentation platforms like Confluence.
  • Experience working with Agile/Scrum development teams.
  • Experience working within a partner ecosystem or channel organization.
