About the Role:
We are looking for a highly detail-oriented and proactive HR Generalist, Payroll & Benefits to join our People team. This role will have a heavy emphasis on payroll, tax compliance, and benefits administration. The ideal candidate is experienced in setting up payroll processes from the ground up, managing state registrations, and ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
In addition to your core responsibilities, you’ll work closely with the Senior Human Resources Manager to support a wide range of HR initiatives and day-to-day operations. Key Responsibilities:
Payroll & Tax Compliance (50%)
- Own end-to-end payroll processing using ADP, ensuring timely and accurate payroll for multi-state employees.
- Register new states for payroll tax purposes and maintain up-to-date compliance with all relevant state and local tax regulations.
- Set up and maintain tax profiles and unemployment insurance accounts in new jurisdictions.
- Collaborate with Accounting on payroll reporting, reconciliations, and audits.
- Ensure accurate employee classification, earnings, and deductions.
Benefits Administration (20%)
- Administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and 401(k).
- Serve as the primary administrator for the 401(k) plan, managing enrollments, compliance reporting, and annual testing.
- Support the Senior HR Manager in reviewing and assessing benefits plan options ahead of open enrollment; partner with Finance and brokers to evaluate offerings and recommend solutions that align with both company goals and employee needs.
- Coordinate and execute open enrollment, including communication, system setup, and employee support.
- Act as the main point of contact for employee benefit questions and manage vendor relationships to resolve issues efficiently.
HR Generalist & M&A Support (30%)
- Support the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, and employee changes in the HRIS.
- Partner with the Director of People on HR integration efforts during mergers and acquisitions.
- Ensure compliance with employment regulations and internal policies.
- Maintain accurate HRIS data and assist with compliance audits and reporting.
- Help implement scalable HR processes and tools as we grow.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in HR with a strong focus on payroll and tax compliance.
- Hands-on experience registering for state tax accounts and managing multi-state payroll.
- Experience directly administering 401(k) plans, including annual testing and compliance.
- Proficiency in ADP Workforce Now (or equivalent HRIS/payroll system).
- Solid understanding of federal and state labor laws, payroll tax laws, and benefits regulations.
- Experience supporting HR in M&A environments is a plus.
- Startup or high-growth company experience is highly preferred.
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) is a plus but not required.
